Cahill is definitely starting to get up there in age and has had some really poor performances over the last couple of years. Azpilicueta is only 28 though, so he has plenty of good years left in him either as a RB in a back 4 or CB in a back 3. Depending on what formation Chelsea plays next year under whatever new manager is appointed I think Miazga would be a worthy back up, but personally I'd rather see him getting consistent minutes with another team, preferably in the Bundesliga or midtable PL
You’re sleeping on Matt Miazga’s line-splitting passes. You just are. pic.twitter.com/krnaiKkLI2— Joseph Lowery (@joeclowery) June 10, 2018 Some really good stuff here.
This report says 6 cm for Giroud. Didier Deschamps said Olivier Giroud "should be ready" for France Group C first game against Australia on June 16 after suffering a six centimetre head laceration in a clash of heads with #Chelsea defender Matt Miazga. #CFC— The Blues (@TheBlues___) June 10, 2018
If it were some other club, maybe. But Chelsea is one of those clubs where it's not enough to be a good player, but you also must carry some marketing weight. The fact that the majority of news outlets around the world talked about Giroud's injury and completely ignored Miazga tells you why it's unlikely he'll ever start for Chelsea, beyond when they put him on the window for a loan or sale.
This is absolutely ridiculous. We bought Bakayoko for 40mm and no one had a clue who he is! The majority of news outlets talked about Giroud because he’s headed to the World Cup as a starter for one of the favorites, while Miazga is a mostly unknown player who’s headed home. The size of the chip on that shoulder!
Bakayoko had been a starter for Monaco and France & the Ivory Coast fought over him. He was very well known, maybe not in England but in the world of soccer.
Perhaps starting for a top 5 WC team, and with the WC in less than a week, might have something to do with it? If this was a friendly in October, with no major tournaments to speak of....this injury won't get much media coverage. Why did you think Salah's shoulder injury got so much attention? Because the WC is in sight, and he's the soul of the Egyptian team. Is Salah really that marketable? You become marketable when you score double digit goals in the CL and the EPL. Anyone with those numbers would be marketable.
You underestimate the political and social intersections of marketability. Salah is also marketable because he is a Muslim in a world where the dominant powers are seeking to destabilize Muslim states and fomenting Islamophobia to manufacture public consent. The transfer alone Salah a hero before he started banging in the goals.
I first read this as a satirical post and thought it was hilarious. Then it dawned on me that you may be serious.
Alright, I'm just going to stop this right here. We don't need to get into religion and geopolitics. We have more important matters to discuss: will Matt play for Chelsea next season?!?
Ha! As much as I would like to see it happen, I don’t think it will. Although, assuming they sold Cahill, I don’t think it’d be the worst thing for Chelsea to roll with some combo of Christensen, Azpi, Zouma, Rudiger and Miazga. Chelsea need help in midfield and attack, so they might focus there. Or not. If Chelsea doesn’t think Matt will break through, I hope they just sell him outright this summer. BMG paid $15 million+ for Ginter last year, I see Miazga being in his class
With the craziness around Chelsea, I hope he gets loaned to a BL1 club. He can showcase his talent there and hopefully get sold.
Ream is just too soft. If he only had to pass the ball he'd be fine. But a few times a game he just gets beat for strength or desire. For me he's a Besler without the grit.
