that's good.... missing a preseason for the gold cup is dumb, imo and by going back to Vitesse, they know exactly what they have. Hope that was the plan all along.
Here's one report which says he will be loaned to Vitesse another year from Chelsea. http://www.gelderlander.nl/vitesse/matt-miazga-ook-komend-seizoen-bij-vitesse~a165eac5/ If true, hopefully he can get regular starting time in both Eredivisie and Europa League play.
Just saw that article as well: Matt Miazga with Vitesse again this coming season (it's short. here's a summary) ARNHEM - Matt Miazga is playing for Vitesse again next season reports De Gelderlander. Miazga joins Vitesse this weekend. They go to London for the practice match against Reading. Miazga also played with Vitesse last season. The tall defender made an impression in the second half of the season. The American was high on Vitesse's wish list as a result. Gold Cup In recent weeks, Miazga was with the US at the Gold Cup. (LOL) Jamaica won the final on Wednesday night: 2-1. Miazga DNP.
another Dutch article - based on the Gelderlander, I now see, so no new info http://www.vitesseinside.nl/miazga-keert-terug-vitesse/ MM returns to Vitesse Good news for Vitesse. Arnhem got Matt Miazga last season from Chelsea, but didn't think they'd get him this season. Well, because according to De Gelderlander, the 22-year-old US central defender is hired for another season from the English superpower... (blablabla)
Fine. Does provide him with a little bit of stability going back to Vitesse. Would have loved for some club to buy him outright in order to get the hell away from Chelsea.
Guess who's back!! Welcome @MattMiazga3! #Vitesse 💛🖤 pic.twitter.com/utg2hGuLUQ— Vitesse (@MijnVitesse) July 28, 2017
This is just the second loan in the Chelsea 5 loan sequence. Should start taking bets on which Championship club he transfers to in 3 years. My early $ is on QPR.
http://www.espnfc.us/story/3167525/chelsea-defender-matt-miazga-joins-vitesse-on-loan ESPNFC has the story up as well.
A return to what he knows. Guaranteed 6 Europa League games. A good performance gets him a spot on the WC roster and who knows how it goes from there.
No real downside if MM is enjoying Arnhem/Eredivisie. Fraser seems a decent coach so far, gets to play with a few other Chelski loanees. Worse leagues to play in. Gives me another reason to watch some Dutch footie. All good.

19 starts and 11 subs last year. Not including cup play he got 1453 minutes. He needs to up that significantly if he's gonna have a chance at the WC. But unfortunately for him Bruce is the coach and he's blindly loyal to Gonzo.
Blindly loyal to Gonzo? What makes him blind? Gonzo has faired pretty well. And often sits behind Brooks and Cameron.

Gonzo doesn't have the mobility, comfortability on ball or passing ability to fair well against a good side. Press him and we are in trouble. Then add in that he doesn't read the game particular well to make up for those deficiencies and we wasted a good chance to try out Miazga and hedges in must win knock out games in a tournment. Even if lower level than a World Cup it would have been better to use them instead of Gonzo. Faired well is not the case either. Look past the results themselves and he hasn't faired well.
He's very loyal to Gonzalez. Gonzalez didn't belong playing over Miazga after the group stage. Gonzalez does not belong in our top 4 CB's, he's been passed by a few players.
