i'm confident that won't happen in lyon. even if the problems are real (see this excellent article in french) the club hasn't declared war on ultras, quite the contrary. or to be more accurate, that war was declared and won very quickly, unconditional surrender was signed and a marshall plan was started 15 years ago. though the bad gones are not all choirboys, and links between a certain core of their membership and far-right groups exist, as a group the BG87 are apolitical. most importantly, what unsavoryness exists is kept absolutely out of the stadium, to the point that the majority of the 1200-1500 card-carrying members don't even know that their leaders were (and for some, still are) fachos. there are plenty of ex-BG in the virage nord in the sections on either side of C-D, but they haven't been drummed out for naughtiness, they have simply become less involved for reasons of school or family, but that same ultra current carries at varying voltage all the way to the edges of the VN: about 5000 souls on a good night. the black sheep are at the south end, the VS. some migrated from the VN, most were never BG to begin with. at the same time KOB and different VA groups were disbanded the never very well organized Cosa Nostra Lyon was outlawed; the group there now, Lyon 1950, is not big enough to either get subsidies from the club or fully police their two sections (which are open to all, whereas C-D in the VN is card-carrying BG only). since the two sections to their right are the visitors' pen and no-man's land, and the sections on their left is the family area, the indy naughtykittens sit with them, but these are not extremely numerous nor overt. i have torn stickers off this pole in front of god and everyone and never been dicked with; moreover, the last time i went by there were no intact stickers on it. we still don't know what the situation will be in the new stadium, but JMA, unlike other clubs which there is no need to name, is a fervent supporter of a (well regulated) ultra presence in the stadium.
this morning i saw a bus whose destination on the front was marked STADE DES LUMIERES. he wasn't anywhere near there or even in the right direction but i was tickled to see it.
A video of the renovated Parc de Princes was shown to players but for some reason its not released to the public. I hope it surfaces soon.
