Seriously, can we kill off the turf talk in here? It isn't at all relevant to this stadium expansion.
Only if you tell us what your profile pic is. To me it looks like a snow covered roof with a TV antenna blowing in a strong wind.
Just a note on the placement of this thread. If it were in the Portland club section I'd have no problem with honoring requests to stop the turf comments. But since this thread is in news and analysis it invites comments from all parties on all relevant topics. Part of a stadium discussion is about aesthetics, and for that reason alone artifical turf is relevant. Watching the Atlanta - Seattle match this week it was obvious that the field had recently been topped off with black rubber chunks. That and the fact that the field consists of different colored 10 yard wide turf strips. And players getting off the ground had dozens of rubber chunks sticking to them. Safe or not, I don't know. But any stadium with a turf field gets a lower score on appearance.
This is a thread about a specific renovation of the Timbers stadium. This renovation has nothing to do with changing the playing surface of the field. I encourage and support people to create a thread about removing artificial turf from stadiums in MLS. This thread, however, is not the place for that discussion. It has been brought up in this thread before, and this was @Yoshou 's response earlier. Please can we cut out the grass talk.
They're starting on the 3rd level support columns behind the existing roof now. They're also setting up forms for the first level connecting the new structure to the historic partial horseshoe.
Yeah, what exactly is that thing? It looks like a rudimentary drawing of a polar bear balancing a turd on his nose/forehead with a branch sticking out of it.
Isnt it obvious? Its Yankee Doodle after he stuck the feather in his cap, but before calling it Macaroni.
I know some people use the term "macaroni" to refer to any kind of pasta, but what exactly is that? Fusilli? half-cooked linguine? Marone! What kinda mamaluke drew that thing anyway? Hey, I'm getting hungry. Anyayuz want some gabbagol?
Off the top of my head macaroni was someone who was in style and at the height of fashion. So, just sticking a feather, any feather, in a cap and saying "I'm hip. I'm with it." when you're not means the person is foolish. As for the pasta, elbow pasta. That's it.
Photos to add. A few progress photos from our site visit to the new East End of Providence Park in Portland. Turner Construction is doing an amazing job coordinating work with the matchday schedule. In stadium look. 90 minutes from kickoff for #PORvVAN and I can't help but be impressed by the rate that the Eastside is getting built up. #RCTID pic.twitter.com/habv9FvnXV— Mike Donovan (@TheMikeDonovan) August 12, 2018
It has always looked like a Moose with the wrong antlers and screwed up legs to me. Not sure why my brain thought that.
I am sure this has been discussed but is this only our second MLS stadium expansion (Toronto being 1st)? There was the tiny expansion for Stub Hub for the Chargers. Not sure that counts. Orlando expanded their original ~20k plans. Atlanta expanded available seating from the original ~20k plan. Seattle has added available seating. I would think Sporting KC would be the logical team to expand next.
I don't know if aperfectring has any children, but I always assumed that it was something one of his children drew. Regardless, I've always liked it. It makes me feel happy for some reason. I wish I had a larger one to look at.
I think it's Portland's second or third expansion. The official capacity is at SKC is 18,467. Their record average is 20,003 and the record attendance is 21,500, so I assume the capacity is fluid.
Its not fluid. Its called standing room. There is a limit. They have thousands on season ticket waiting list.
Ive heard before (can’t remember when, or where), that SKC wanted a certain number on the wait list before they would seriously entertain expansion. I want to say 10,000, but it was quite a few years ago and my memory fails me from time to time.
So then 18,467 isn't the capacity, it's the seated capacity. But I assume the 25,000 capacity for concerts includes standing areas.
