Guess this means no Rose City Invitational games this year?

Correct. Also no preseason games next year while they're finishing up the construction.

According to this, they'll be doing construction throughout the season while the stadium is open for games.

Construction is proceeding well. They're starting to pour the new sidewalk, and the new turf has been installed.

It'd be a bit difficult (though not impossible). That entire side of the street is blocked off with k-rails, and chain link over top of that, all of which makes taking pictures at any distance rather hard unless you are up in the air, and close up pictures won't really tell much. It's only about a month until the stadium opens for the season, so there should be some good picture opportunities relatively soon.

They started putting up the fences/gates today. Home opener is quickly approaching!

When it goes out of touch, do they have ball kids with jetpacks?

I think the correct way to phrase that is "when it goes into touch." Going "out of touch" would mean back into the field of play, I guess.
The area outside of the field is called "touch", meaning you can touch the ball with your hands in that area.

For the last week or so, they have been setting up forms for the first level of concourse. I won't have a chance to get a picture this week.

would someone measure the distance from exterior of the current stadium to the street curb? I'm interesting in whether a similar addition could someday be placed on Audi Field in DC. We have less distance from stadium to crub, but I don't know how much less.

Well, it depends what you are asking.

Looking at Google Maps, The current sidewalk is just about 13’ or the width of a standard lane of trafffic. But parts of the parking lane at the curb are taken up by bump-outs at stadium entrances. How far your application could be moved depends on whether the air rights could be extended over a parking lane or not, or whether parts of any parking lane could also be removed for pedestrian space.keep in mind that the sidewalk will remain public space. Only the upper levels will be over the sidewalk. There isn’t any reason air rights couldn’t be ceded over a street also after a certain height.

It's also important to note that the current curb is not where the curb was when the project started. Part of this construction project was removing the parking lane that used to be there.

It would be very hard to get the measurements now, because the fence and all of the surface concrete were completely torn out, so we have no idea if the current fence is in the same position as the old one was. I'm willing to bet that it isn't.

Thanks. I know this is imprecise, but i'm interested in a good guess as to the approximate distance between the current exterior of the stadium and let's say the near driving lane of the parallel street (since I'm pretty sure there will be no street parking beside Audi). I have no idea whether that's about 50 feet or 200. If it's closer to the former then maybe Audi has a chance for a similar expansion, closer to the latter then no way. I'm assuming for the sake of this exercise that Audi stadium would not be permitted to overhang the street itself.

Way under 50 feet. I'd guess 25 ft from the old fence to the new curb.

Next important thing to note is that there were no stands above the concourse for the old setup, so they could build the upper levels directly above the existing concourse, which would probably be different than Audi Field's setup.

In general, it's hard to look at one stadium expansion project and use it as a solid basis for how another project would go. There's a lot of differences which complicate things a whole lot.

One more question before I drop it and let you all get back to talking about your own stadium expansion. If I understand what aperfectring said, what I'm asking about is the distance between the edge of the current stands and the near driving lane - in other words the width of the area which you have to build the upper level. At Audi the concourse is already under the stands, so the stands are maybe 30-50 feet from the street.

Since basically all of the existing stands are below concourse level, that makes the height one has to go up to get to the upper decks significantly less than at Audi, which significantly changes the needs for type of construction. More significant supports, and a wider base between those supports, will be needed to deal with the larger torques from winds. In other words, it's different enough that using Providence Park as an example is probably not a good idea.

That said, I would guess maybe 50 feet from the furthest out parts of existing concessions to the new curb.
