renderings of Empire Stadium, where the Whitecaps will play their first few home games in 2011 were also released today http://www.theprovince.com/sports/P...rary+stadium+Empire+Fields/2371246/story.html
Their new stadium is gonna be a lot less blurry than I remember PGE being. I wonder if it's gonna spin like the old one?
Better turf than dirt that's harder than the parking lot due to overuse from all the activity. Been there, done that; it sucks (and I had the season-long strawberry on my thigh to prove it). Empire Stadium looks intriguing. Don't flame me (bro ), but if it's big enough, could it become the future permanent home of the Whitecaps?
Unfortunately no, they're investing too much money into BC Place. It's a shame, this looks like a great stadium for the price (sub 20 million!). I can imagine that it'll be fairly spartan, but it looks charming in a simple old school way. After they are done with this stadium they should send it to Toronto for the Argos
What's with the "Are You In" on the side of Empire? I expected the other side to say, "In? Hell, I'm done already". Looks like something that should be plastered on the side of The Dick. Nice looking temp stadium though.
scre3w BC palace or wutever that place stinnks. Spend an extra 10 million and make that stadium yours after the CFL team moves out.
I'm curious how one goes about building a temporary structure like Empire Stadium? What separates this from a permanent structure? Because US$15,000,000 for that place seems pretty damn inexpensive. Mr. Warmth?
Empire stadium is temporary? That stadium looks better than a lot of MLS stadiums. They should just stay there.
Here's a link showing examples of temporary stadiums from a company that specializes in that area. Now I don't know what the cost is but here's a pic of a temp soccer stadium in Germany. Looks pretty good for a temp stadium...
Check your link. That's one of the firm's permanent stadiums. Their temporary ones are a lot less robust... Temporary volleyball arena, Klagenfurt Temporary scaled-down Olympiastadion for 2006 World Cup I don't expect this Temp-ire Stadium to look any better than a bigger Buck Shaw, and there's no purpose in letting Vancouver play in a temporary stadium on the outskirts of town when there is a good stadium downtown that will have an atmosphere just as good, if not better. However, for half a season, it will serve the Whitecaps' purpose.
that rendering is half-assed. just like everything else portland does. what a dump of a city, and a joke of soccer club.
i laughed for a solid 23 seconds when i read this. another club in the north west with field turf. yay.
Empire Stadium looks sweet. Does the renovation of BC Place really hinder on the Caps moving in there? Seriously, Empire Stadium looks like a top notch soccer facility for a cheap price. It's too bad some other teams can't get "temporary" stadiums like that.
