Yes because the Sensi's were so great. They nearly bankrupted this club and JP saved it. Overall he's done far more good than bad. Any fan that talks of winning trophy I dismiss out of hand because they are either; A) not being honest or B) don't know the history of Roma. Roma have no European trophies and 3 scudetti, we have never "won trophies". So now holding Pallotta to a standard far above Roma's historical mean is disingenuous. The hiring of Monchi and giving him complete autonomy was a huge blunder to which he has owned. Rosella still won't own the fact her family nearly turned Roma into Parma. Yes the last 2 years JP has done a poor job but overall he's done right by this club.
The person who brought 600k Guberti as if we were buying Ronaldo badmouthing the person who bought Iturbe for 30mil. and has managed to shrugged off the expense when he turned out to be a failure. Rosella is words and bile and bancrupcy, Pallotta is stability and long-term growth. I don't get all that hate towards Pallotta that seems to be grounded in him not being an old Italian croook who doesn't spend every single moment of his life obsessing over owning a football club, but has other stuff to think of too.
I've defended him but I'm about to be off his badwagon after this Luca nonsense. You think he would have learned after Monchi but he's doing the same nonsense now. JP needs to pull the plug on this and pull it quick
I dont like to be repetitive. I have no problem not winning, if we keep the identity of this club. But when you trash Totti who represents more then 20 years of the history of our club. When you trash De Rossi, then expectation is you deliver me some silverware. Show me the silverware, or dont turn Roma to circus show. If you cannot win silverware, if you cannot win and you know you cant. Why all this unpopular decisions they take? Its as if Pallotta bought this club to revenge on Roma fans, he is on Lazio payroll or sthg.
I get you. But I am at the point where I defend the management for being prudent, but I don't respect them for being that either, it's nice knowing that we are mostly thinking long-term, but at the same time I won't be tuning in for the bad seasons either. It's just not worth it. Being angry for 2 or 4 hours every week - not for me anymore. If they do a good job, I'll enjoy the decent football, if they don't and we have another crappy season - there are plenty of things that one can do with that many hours per week. Interesting things. Everything is competing for my attention with Roma - whatever wins, wins, I just want us not to be pushovers for once.
How did he trash Totti and DDR? By not letting them play until they were 50. Both players were past it and needed to go but they couldn't let go and so we didn't renew their contracts. He then gave Totti a "No-Show" job so that he could jet around the world while collecting a paycheck. JP handed DDR a contract that made him the highest paid player in the league which is a joke. Yea, DDR was a great player but getting more than Pirlo, Cavani, etc.. that's ridiculous. I'll wager you'd be hard pressed to find another DM that is their leagues highest paid player. He is 36, has bad knees and couldn't run and some how he was being trashed because we didn't want to gift him another contract. In the end the only way to make the fans happy was to let those 2 play until they died because neither showed any signs of retiring.
He could have given Totti more power to run the club. But he didnt, Why ? Is this about because we would do worse with Totti running the club(which I doubt)? We would finish 9th under Totti instead of 6th under some clown like Monchi? Is this what its about? couple of positions better? No titles. Then on top of it, he lies to the entire fanbase Totti is making decisions on who the coach is etc etc. While its someone else doing the job. Put all pressure of decisions taken on Totti? Why should Totti take the consequence of their decisions on his own shoulders? Whoever is taking the decision should be under the radar, not hide in some shithole in London. I also think De Rossi would have still been useful in my opinion. Either win titles, or keep the identity of this club. Because when your not winning, and selling your identity there is nothing left off your club.
Give Totti more power? Totti didn't want to put in the work it takes to get to the point of decision making, he's been off vacationing around the world. If he wants to be a director there is a lot of technical, legal/accounting things he must learn first. Totti has no interest in learning that, he wants pull names out of his ass and say, "here is our next coach" or "this should be our next CB." Just because Totti was a great player does not mean he has the knowledge or the work ethic to be a director. Football came very easy to Totti and all of the whispering about Totti's nights out on the down before matches, card games to wee hours of the morning etc didn't come out of thin air. The difference is he was so damn talented that he could get away with it. In this roll you can't work 20 hrs a month and expect to be successful and that's what Totti wants. He wants all the decision making power without any of the work that goes with it.
Well said. No point in watching if they aren't even trying to give us a quality product. I'd understand if we were rebuilding and went through growing pains of young kids. But swapping a young kid for a 27 year old journeyman. That doesn't make us better this year or next. I'll be watching Dortmund this year. They have had a great off-season.
Because he was posting pictures of him and his families on vacation. If he truly wanted to be a director he would have been studying for his licences, been in Roma working with the other directors. Hell, Balzaretti did this. He earned more say in what the club did than Totti. I remember reading when Balzaretti was going to class, studying and passed his license exam. Totti has done none of this.
Fair enough but he's a technical director. If he has the brains for the game licenses and courses aren't going to teach that. In my oppinion his brain for the game is his biggest qualification. If he was in another role I could understand, but to be a technical director I don't know how that would make him more qualified.
I feel I'd rather have the guy with more experience in that role than someone who does the schooling. If I did a bunch of courses and licenses, I might still have a bad eye for the game.
Any news on the stadium? I thought work was supposed to start in June? Is Raggi procrastinating again?
Hanno detto che fa troppo caldo durante l’estate per cominciare. Per questo facto loro vogliono cominciare in dicembre.
My brother was recently in Naples and Roma for a few days and if what he tells me for how Italian treat tourists and foreigners is true then this stadium is never going to get built. Sounds like they want foreigners' money bad enough, but they cannot help but be rude and unpleasant/childish in any way possible towards those who pay their salaries with outside money. Listening to my brother totally changed my views of the country.
Totally depends. Also, many of those Italians you see as waiters outside restaurants and selling goods are not Italian.
People treated my dad and I completely different. I looked Italian when I visited, olive-tanned skin, long dark hair, wearing Roma gear everywhere...people bent over backwards to be nice or help and many thought I was a local. My dad didn't get that same reception, standing right next to me each time. He's much darker than I am, with afro type hair. They weren't really rude but it was like walking up to a DMV window for him, just pure business. Also random, but every old Italian man, woman, or couple we spoke with, told us how much everyone hates inter-marriage and that the white Italian would disappear soon because foreigners were reproducing much faster.
My brother definitely doesn't look Italian - we are Slavic, but I'd say we have the same skin tone as them. We look much more Italian than Russian or anything too slavic etc. We have a bit of Greek blood in the family too. Still, you don't have to be a genius to spot someone's nationality from a mile away if you are Europe born. I can tell between a Greek/Romanian/Turk/Italian/Spanish/German/Scand from 7 and a half miles, it's the bone structure of the face, hair tint, skin tint, style of dress etc. But the thing is - even if they have something against our nationality, my brother was with some German/Australian/Scand dudes and dudesess and all of them had the same issue with the locals. Shopkeepers/waiters slamming your change on the counter, throwing it around as for it to fall on the floor... my brother is mild tempered, I would've probably thrown a barrage at that bastard in return. Their group have tried to call a taxi getting back from the beach - no one bothered to listen. They've tried stopping a dozen Italians on the road to beg someone to call for a taxi in Italian - no takers. Again - we're talking an International group of people from 7 countries from all over the world. My brother has been living in Berlin for a few years, so he's used to dealing with life abroad without knowing the local language - he knows English well-enough. The only Italians he's had good impression from were the owners of the hostel who he said were super friendly and were treating him and his friends as part of the company, going as far as to invite them for a home party after work, but damn... Naples doesn't sound like the best place to be, Rome either. He actually went there for a study exam, so if he makes it he'll have to live there for a year and I'm not sure if he's willing at this point. EDIT: On the bright side I've got myself two Roma jackets at 1/2 price from the Roma shop, so there's that. Raggi could sleep like a babe tonight, with my foreign taxes in her pocketses, go-lum, go-lum.
