Baldissoni arriving at the Palazzo Senatorio now. There's a lot of noise and rehashing of the day's earlier events on twitter, but this report (can't comment on its veracity) seemed more positive: Source: https://asroma.co.uk/2017/02/24/live-updates-crucial-hours-for-stadio-della-roma-project/ Update: +++ Nuovo accordo tra l'As Roma e il M5S sullo stadio di Tor di Valle, appena iniziato l'incontro con la Raggi per discutere i dettagli +++— IL TEMPO (@tempoweb) February 24, 2017 And furthermore: #Roma, c'è l'accordo per lo stadio a Tor di Valle #stadiodellaroma https://t.co/J9RvkBzbPD— Repubblica (@repubblica) February 24, 2017 La Repubblica reporting a 50% reduction in cubic volume as part of the agreement.
Editor of RomaPress just said on Twitter that it looks like the Stadium was approved, with the agreement noted above being the final version.
ForzaRoma.info says an agreement has been reached. They're showing a live video of Raggi with Baldissoni. https://www.facebook.com/forzaromai...tif_id=1487971348933514&__mref=message_bubble
I think it refers to square footage, but I haven't seen any full details. Interesting, as well, to see how the pearl clutching issues of cement and the cultural value of the hippodrome seem to have vanished into thin air.
So are we supposed to expect backlash, appeals and more delays by other officials who are openly against the stadium? What will make them shut up and get on with their lives?
Yes, Raggi confirmed that in a facebook post. The project (mainly the business park) will be reduced by 60% in size and will get rid of all proposed towers. Not sure what the financial implications, but Raggi and her gang managed to blackmail Pallotta and co (and Roman public) into accepting that as some sort of victory. Have to give it to her she played the politics game to perfection.
You're damn right it is James! James Pallotta: "This is an important day for Roma. We look forward to building a stadium that the club & city can showcase to the world" pic.twitter.com/PStmtJdgnj— CalcioASRoma (@CalcioASRoma) February 24, 2017
What? She did no such thing, she never wanted any stadium at all. She got absouletly steamrolled on this. Pallotta called her out in public time and again. Grillo tried to giver her support and cover and she still lost. I'm not sure how you think she won.
I think she was personally open to it, but her Party was not at all. Could be wrong. Is it possible that Roma's front office knew there would be political pushback, so overshot on purpose so that the scale back would give them what they want?
I don't care about the politics at all, I care about a stadium! The future! Now let's go crush Inter and on to Lyon......get those shovels in the ground before someone has another meeting.
I certainly don't know the details but the former mayor wanted Roma to pay for infrastructure upgrades. In turn Roma agreed but expanded the project to generate more revenue to pay for those upgrades, hence the business park. With this new agreement who knows what Roma have agreed to pay for.
She has stated before she was against the business park but open to negotiate for the stadium - many times actually (go and read her statement from her campaigning days on her Facebook). However Roma made clear the business park is an essential part of the project. She then threatened to cancel the whole thing, and pulled the hydrological risk and cultural artistic crap out of her ass to force Roma to accept for just a stadium. The loss of business park will have financial implications when it comes to financing the stadium. But that's a worry for tomorrow. Today we celebrate. Cheers.
Not to combine forums and I'm sure I"ll get yelled out, but the barriers are coming down after yesterday as well, no????? I need several drinks. Several.
If I were Palotta, I'd have one hand creeping toward the eject button anyway. His position can only get worse the longer this drags out.
Here's a video from last June, titled "M5 want a stadium for Roma" https://www.facebook.com/virginia.raggi.m5sroma/videos/600915210090932/
The towers and all the extra crap was never going to go into our pockets so I couldn't care less that it's being axed.
That was right before the elections. Up until the few months before the election she and the M5 party all said they were against the project. She stated on many occasions Rome had "more important things to worry about". That video was a PR move at best, heck she even paid lip service to Lazio saying they should have a stadium and they don't even have plans for one. So today they approved the stadium and the business park (reduced). A stadium she stated (until about May of last year) she didn't want. A business park which she was dead set against. In Tor di Valle which her puppet master was against. She got rid of the towers? Not sure what that means but my guess is they'll only be a few stories high, who knows. At the very best she wasn't completely against the stadium but she was never, ever for it. edit. We also don't know if Roma are going to pay for the infrastructure upgrades. If so how much.
From what @ShoelessMan said when he met Dan Meis and how confident he sounded this is a very big possibility. I'd like to see Pallotta's comments after this, that will tell us how happy he is ir isn't.
Get a Brown Derby. If your bartender is a #n00b (sorry to all my European friends for my country's hatred of the metric system): 2 Ounces of Bourbon 1 Ounce of Grapefruit Juice 1/2 an Ounce of Honey Syrup Shake, strain into a coupe glass, and garnish with a grapefruit slice. I saw on Twitter that he made a brief statement, "This is a monumental day for Roma," or something benign like that. I too want to gauge his reaction. A press conference would be nice.
