looking back in terms of Germany U21, the GKs chosen look to all have had good careers so far.
    2017
-Pollersbeck, who was Germany U21 #1 is Hamburg's #1, very good chance will be back in 1BL next season.
-Vlachodimos is #1 at Benfica in Portugal, although is now with Greece NT
-Schwabe is #1 at Brondby in Denmark, has never played in 1BL, he went from 2BL to Denmark

    2015
-ter Stegen, who was Germany U21 #1, is now #1 at Barcelona in Spain
-Leno is #1 at Arsenal in England
-Horn is #1 at Koln, like Pollersbeck who got relegated last season to 2BL should get promotion this season

    2013
    -Baumann is #1 for Hoffenheim

and Leno (was #1 for this cycle) and Horn played in this cycle too. So they played up a cycle and then their actual cycle.

2011, Germany failed to qualify for this tournament, GKs chosen in qualifiers
    -Baumann, Sippel already mentioned
    -Trapp currently Frankfurt #1
-Ulreich, currently Bayern #2 but has played 211 1BL games and 277 games in all competition for 1BL sides.

    2009
-Neuer who was Germany U21 #1, now Bayern #1
-Sippel, played 43 1BL games and 169 2BL games and overall 230 games as a pro. Currently Gladbach's #2, although with expired 2019 contract.
-Fromlowitz, the only guy from the list who's career has crashed, played 70 1BL games but his career went downwards after 2010-2011 season where he went to 2BL then 3rd Liga then RL, now looks to be in German 6th division.....

    Next up
2019, next cycle 2/3 guarantee names
-Nubel is #1 at Schalke after displacing Fahrmann
    -F.Muller is #1 at Mainz

U21 is the best looker at players who pan out. So many GKs who were picked between U15-U20 never really went far whether same can be said about outfield players. It's obvious why, as U21 picks players who are playing in pro level whether 1BL-2BL, while lower youth NT levels are all over the place.

of course some players get left out of U21 still pan out or are late bloomers.

And so something went down that the German football in its most sacred position suddenly lamented a shortage of young talent: in that gate, in which German football had propagated for decades as if by itself.

At first the children wanted to be like Toni Turek, then like Sepp Maier, then like Toni Schumacher, then like Andy Köpke, then like Oliver Kahn and then actually like Manuel Neuer.

Only: where were they suddenly all?

This Friday again plays the young man, who has the mission to save the reputation of the goalkeeper years 1996 and younger. Alexander Nübel, 22, was ambushed by Schalke coach Domenico Tedesco last Sunday and is regarded as a new-style top talent, and so, beyond Nübel's personal story, the question arises: Is this just a sparsely populated goalie generation, which consists only of this Nübel , if the next best keeper of these vintages are already called Brodersen, Körber or Markus Schubert, but what you will find out including their clubs (St. Pauli, VfL Osnabrück, Dynamo Dresden) only after some Googling?

So they are not that good?

Or are there other nuggets hiding in this generation, and you just can not see them?

"The goalkeeping position is still just a special," says Andreas Köpke, the national goalkeeper coach, "one or another Bundesliga coach asks a young goalkeeper, perhaps more than a fielder: Is he ready? The coaches then prefer on experience or even on a seasoned goalkeeper from abroad. "The customer review has been automatically translated from German. On the one hand, the German goalkeeper went along the way to the modern age, as can now be seen in Schalke, where the cult goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann superficially falsified a few mistakes; In truth, the modern coach Tedesco but rather a goalkeeper, who is not from this old school, in which above all athleticism and responsiveness were taught. He wants one like Nübel, nickname "Mini-Manu", an eleventh outfield player who can almost kick like Libero used to.

But on the other hand, a goalkeeper is just a goalkeeper, with a few non-negotiable laws. "You do not change a goalkeeper in the 60th minute," says Köpke, "and permanent exchanges on this position have never paid off, so it's the goalkeepers who come from the performance centers, compared to the field players much harder to get into match practice. " And match practice, says Köpke, is "irreplaceable for the development of a goalkeeper".

That's why eight out of 18 league leaders in goalkeeping Germany are currently occupied by foreign keepers, "and they are all really good too," says Köpke, "whether they are Casteels, Sommer, Bürki or Hradecky, for example be called." Köpke does not want to talk the clubs in there, "every club has its own everyday problems, they do not need any advice from me". Köpke knows that the goalkeeping position entrusted to him will remain an unruly position even in enlightened and youth-stricken football - because you can not blame the Bundesliga coaches if they do not dare to use a goalkeeper under the pressure of running games Names even the experts first have to google.

But Köpke would have a small suggestion: In other countries and leagues, he says, it is "partly natural that young goalkeepers are allowed to play in the cup, where they can develop and be introduced".

funny how they don't mention F.Muller in the article. I think the real blame for this is that from the 94-97 age groups it does feel like there aren't too many great GK prospects. Clubs want quality GKs prospects for 1BL.

although moving forward it does seem that we are starting to produce GKs again that could really be considered.

as for the 8 clubs with foreign GKs, well some of those 8 clubs seem to be prepping some German youngsters to be the successors of the currently foreign GKs. So it's only a matter of time, likely in 3-5 years depending on the club. Without taking account that injuries to other GKs, which might fastforward the process.

have to say it does seem accurate that more and more clubs are starting to prefer the 11th outfield player GKs over the old fashioned variety. Seems like the 11th player ones could have an easier time.

I've always wondered too why 1BL clubs plays the full team in every position even in cups. I mean seems stupid when Bayern for example plays Neuer in earlier Cup games vs some 4th division club.

And Schalke 04 coach Domenico Tedesco's decision to bench Fährmann has been a tough blow for the 30-year-old, according to his agent, Stefan Backs.

"Ralf is angry and upset," Backs told Sport1.

It has been reported that Fährmann could even leave the club this month, but Backs underlines a move isn't on the cards right now, although the experienced goalkeeper obviously isn't happy about being on the bench.

"Ralf is too young to sit on the bench permanently. He's good enough to play at the same level for another club. But it's difficult for him, because he's a Schalke player with heart and soul," Backs told Sport1.

"As long as Ralf is still emotional - and he is at the moment - it makes no sense to make a decision in the direction of a transfer. He's not working on finding another club, and he'll not be doing so in the next few weeks," he explained.

Marius Muller wants to leave RB.
Three class goalkeepers in the bulls are at least one too many.

Behind the undisputed number one Peter Gulacsi (28) are Yvon Mvogo (24) and Marius Müller (25).

Especially for Müller, who had extended his contract until the beginning of October until 2021, a very difficult situation. Because its view on mission times is vanishingly small.

According to BILD information, therefore, Mueller has internally made it clear that he wants to borrow. Müller: "I hope for match practice, no matter in which league."

According to BILD information, there should be several requests from the first and second Bundesliga. In addition, foreign clubs are interested.

Problem however: Rangnick does not want to let go (yet). Most recently, he repeatedly said, "We will take no chances. Quickly someone can hurt themselves or catch a lock. Then we need three strong goalkeepers. "

But if everyone stays healthy, he has at least two dissatisfied keeper ...

really what did he expect? and why did he sign extension? So he has requests from 1BL clubs and even 2BL and he wastes time to be RB's 3rd GK? Wonder which foreign leagues, Ducth/Denmark???

lol and Rangnick pretty much indirectly admitted that 00 GK Krahl was given a bull pro contract just to get the 12 German players requirement, without ever really considering the kid. Signs kid as 4th GK only to not trust him one bit.

RB aren't in Europe anymore, he really thinks he needs 3 pro GKs with experience in his club. It's like his fullback obsession, he has like 5 of them but always seems to want more and more.

Timon Wellenreuther with a clean sheet as Willem II won 1-0 away at Utrecht. His 5th CS of the season, and in back to back appearances after last week's win vs NAC Breda.

the blame on that red is the very poor defensive work from the Schalke defense.

95 Dortmund GK Eric Oelschlagel makes his Dortmund 1st team and pro debut as he starts for Dortmund in the Cup game vs Bremen. As both Hitz and Burki are currently ill.

Wellenreuther's contract with Willem II expires this summer. Although they have club option to extend for another year which I'm certain they're do to maintain him on contract for options. Question is whether their look to sell him though to a larger club.
