Agreed, but that is the influence of television and Tranmere won't be complaining, they will get half a million quid in TV money. The other sacrilege is the fact there will only be 10 ties kicking off at 3 pm tomorrow! Has the world gone mad? And now there will be no 5th round replays and starting next season, round 5 will be played midweek.

I am just holding my breath that one of those pub-league CBs of Tranmere doesn't hack down Harry...

Gazzaniga is going to remain undefeated in a Spurs shirt, he has been like that 50 dollar bill you find unexpectedly in the sofa.

The scoreline is appropriate considering we are wearing our Toronto Argonauts double-blue kit.

Aurier fails in his bid for a hatrick firing the ball into the Mersey with his left.

Andre Marriner produces his first booking againts Banks, a bad challenge on Skipp. This is probably the easiest game he has ever reffed.

Classic Aurier moment, he comes in with a rash challenge and then fires a shot on goal that is blocked.

Andre Marriner has a sense of humour - 1 min stoppage time...

Apparently there is a song 'Friday night and the gates are low' by the wonderful Half Man, Half Biscuit in reference to this.

Southend United used to play on Friday nights, as well. I always thought I'd get out to Roots Hall some Friday when I was over, as it looks a cracking little ground, but for some reason it never came off.

Pretty soon some club will come up with the idea of playing at 3 pm on a Saturday...

by the way, for all of us who were bewildered by harry's coming on. apparently Poch's explanation was (I'm paraphrasing) 'I wanted to give their fans a chance to see an English football icon'.

over on SC, there's a thread called "what our opponents are saying about us", in which folks go to various clubs' message boards and report what other fans are saying about spurs. the posts that Tranmere fans are putting up today about Spurs and Pochettino are fantastic. Their appreciation for us bringing a strong team - and especially for bringing on HK - is clear … especially for the kids. Imagine you're a young kid at a club like Tranmere Rovers … and seeing Harry Kane come on and do his thing at Prenton Park. Brillant, eh? Theirs seem to think so.

I get it, but if Kane had wrecked his ankle or got a freak red card, everybody would be going ballistic.

    yup. me included.

but I like it when football isn't 100% a winning/losing/cashflow calculation. the occasional small tip of the hat to football culture does my heart good.

or put differently, when folks say there's literally nothing to be gained by putting him in, I respectfully disagree.

I've always thought this. I always loathed London Red playing the youth players, 100%, because some of the fans wanted to see, and some of the opposing players want to play against, the first team/best players.

Plus, for this last match, Kane is pretty likable.
