I guess this is going to happen. Tickets are $20. I will probably skip this one. http://www.kansascity.com/2011/08/22/3092011/chivas-guadalajara-to-play-sporting.html
Re: Sporting to Host Chivas Guadalajara October 15th October 12th actually. We play Red Bulls on the 15th. This game should not happen. If it were a week later, maybe could have worked since it would have been my birthday but meh, don't want it. Shame Mr. Heineman.
Re: Sporting to Host Chivas Guadalajara October 15th Yeah Heineman announced on twitter a month or so ago that it was basically done. They were just awaiting final paperwork. Maybe we'll be lucky and already have a playoff spot clinched by that point since we'll only have 2 games left. But still don't like this. We are at least off the weekend before, but with the Red Bulls coming to town that Saturday I don't like it.
+1 This game means absolutely nothing except an extra 90 minutes of wear and tear before a more critical game on the 15th. Bad, bad timing.
Well I, for one, will be going, as my birthday is the day after and this is an easy gift suggestion to the wife
Nope, Juniors. Hell, put me on the field. I'll probably go. Week before my birthday, whatever, I'll celebrate it then.
Yes please, dumbest thing you can do before playing an MLS powerhouse. Yes, poor poor planning Robb, come on, you can do better. Fix it by playing Juniors and Reserves. Same here, not supporting a terribly timed game.
Same here, I'll probably be there, which defeats my point of bitching about it. Unfortunately I bet Bravo plays the entire game.
Can we have the Royals just play this one for us? Not like they ever have anything to do during October.
I love all the folks on Twitter complaining about not going to a pointless match during the playoff run. The same people bought tickets to the USWNT game. They'll be there, they're always there.
The Newcastle game didn't seem to affect us too much, I think we'll be fine. We all know PV isn't going to field a starting 11. The games usually start with a mix of starters and subs and switch around half. Heck, we had a trialist against Newcastle. I actually wouldn't be opposed to fielding a Junior or two. Why not? I'd like to see one or two of them play. How about the tiny Seo-In Kim. Also wouldn't mind the chance of seeing Ellis play. I just love watching Kevin play. He's so aggressive and just bounces all over the place.
I agree. Besides, this might be a good chance for some of our injured to get in a little more game-like play before the playoffs.
I get it, its another home date, Bravo is Mexican, bills to pay, etc. But what part of this is a good business decision?
The bit where Chivas fans buy up every spare ticket and get exposed to Livestrong? The bit where a big crowd generates revenue? Its 100% a good business decision. It is just not a great football decision.
thanks NB, its exactly that that I cannot seem to reconcile especially given our current slot in the East. When these are not on TV, its even harder to justify. I am assuming it wont be on tv, just like Newcastle. (I absorbed some anti-soccer punishment for that little gem).
They do have a rather expensive stadium to pay for and a little extra revenue at the end of the season might be quite useful when looking at the payroll next year -- it's bound to be an issue after an MLS championship.
If I understand the way the stadium was financed, it really is being paid for with sales tax generated at the via the entire Village West development. I don't believe we have a big old $200m mortgage. Mike is also right that we don't pay all the players, we will ultimately pay Bravo and Jeferson as DPs though as teams are liable for the slab of the DP contract above (roughly) $350k. Single entity goodness, we kick back a share of our revenue to MLS.
150% agree. And I do expect a squad setup similar to the Newcastle game. No way they let some of our starters go the entire match.
