The rumored and long needed hall of game is a reality. Preki, Meola, and Gansler are the first class inducted tomorrow. After this they'll do 1 a year. I'm on my phone so someone can link to the release.

i think i'd rather they do it on a case-by-case basis than automatically do one per year.

Sage advice, this^, likely from a kc royals fan.

How would you see this case-by-case basis process working?

I'm fine with one a year. Right now you can shortlist Lamar Hunt (should have been included at the start), Molnar, Conrad, Zavagnin, Wolff, Gutierrez, McKeon, Klein, Johnston, Vermes, Takawira, probably a hand full of others I'm snubbing, and by that time you cull the cream of the crop out of that group, Arnaud, Kamara, Zusi, Collin, Besler, Espinosa et all will be retiring and we'll have a new crop to pick from.

I assume there's some sort of selection criteria for a player to get in. If no player meets that criteria, don't vote someone in just so you have one that year.

I can't justify Molnar by himself, yes he had a great season, but that's it, it's just 1 season. If you put him in as part of the "2000 team" fine, but I don't think his one season justifies inclusion in this.

if there is a year in the next decade where no one meets these criteria, the criteria need to be re-evaluated.

pretty good list, but I think I'd include Nick Garcia for sure.

I agree we should have plenty of candidates over the next decade or so but not forever

yeah, if someone was good enough, or met the criteria, then put 'em in. if they don't, don't do it just because you need someone that year.

i think your standards are too low. i agree with lamar hunt (and also agree he should've been included originally), but i'm not sure any of the others should be included, even conrad (discounting my man love for him). most of those guys were just good players, and others didn't play with the team long enough. right now, there should only be 4 people - preki, meola, gansler, and lamar.

Conrad, Zavagnin, Klein, and Garcia are all eventually getting in in my book.

Well, "shortlist" doesn't mean every one of those guys gets in, but I think you're being way too picky if you only include four guys, too.

This year's nominee list is still out. No Hunt, but 5 players.

    Conrad
    Johnston
    Klein
    Vermes
    Zavagnin

Is it just me, or is Vermes on that list kind of weird? I mean, I definitely think he deserves to be up there some day, but he's still coaching us and all. Seems like we're kind of jumping the gun on that one.

Yes, induct Hunt. Reading through earlier posts on this, imagine if we induct one every year for the next 50. That's WAY too many HOFers. They need a system that makes it difficult to get into the Hall, like say a double blackball system, or something similar to the baseball HOF system, where you get a certain number of tries at consensus and if you still fail, you (almost) lose eligibility.

Anyway, given the list, can there be any question that Mo Johnston's HOF case is head and shoulders above the others?

    Nope, same feeling about Zavagnin.

And to be fair, I don't feel that Vermes' playing career here alone makes him a "Sporting Legend"

Despite your feelings from the Cauldron's gift to him, he is a club legend. Top three all time in goals and assists for the team, top five in appearances.

Like the all star game, I almost feel like encouraging people not to vote. Does that make me a jerk? This thing has an automatic feel.

Good memory, Mike. Yeah, that still sticks in my craw. He couldn't have been less grateful or more dismissive. A stark contrast to Diego who was moved to tears.

But you're right. His stats qualify him.

Alright, so I feel like the last few posts have narrowed it down to Conrad and Johnston...
