Hope this goes better than the NYRB themed car at the Texas Speedway a few years back where the car failed to qualify for the race and a couple weeks of marketing and press releases went down the tubes.
I like the fact that Sporting KC and Major League Soccer are not just writing off an entire segment of the potential sports viewership market. But I wonder how many of our "Hipsters" will mock this move........you know who you are.
Well the big difference between SKC doing this and NYRB doing it is that Livestrong Sporting Park is effectively in the parking lot for the Kansas Speedway. Pretty good crossover marketing if you ask me.
I agree Andy. And the relative proximity of the two venues did not escape me. But I'm pretty sure you get my point relative to the attitude some of our fellow Aficionado's have toward NASCAR and the folks that enjoy it.
I like KC's management. They think outside the box. When i said they should buy the Royals, i was only joking, but someone there probably started asking umm "how much money do we need......" They will probably run a pro ladies soccer team too in the coming years
I can see them branching off into other sports, if Robb can get deeper pockets somehow. Who knows, a race called the Sporting 500 race might be created in the future
Don't they have anything else they could spend their money on? Maybe advertising in Kansas City? Sponsoring a race car is not an inexpensive proposition. I just can't believe that there isn't something else they could be spending the money on. Maybe a DP - not sure if they have one or not.
If you're not sure whether KC has a DP or not, why are you even bothering to post an opinion on the marketing options of the team? Seriously? If you really no so little about the team, why write about it. You're obviously not aware of what they are spending money on.
This is advertising - nationwide to the millions of people that watch NASCAR races. On top of that, this is just SKC getting their name on a car for a single race through a promotion, not sponsoring a race car. You obviously havent been paying attention to all the marketing that the team has been doing. By the way, we have 2 designated players and really dont need a third.
They won't buy the Royals (partially because Glass wouldn't sell that cash chow) ... and they have distanced themselves from Pro-Womens soccer.
Are the Royals a cash cow because of revenue-sharing Northbank? Or is attendance so good and team payroll so low?
I would say "yes" to all three. That and having the taxpayers foot the bill to massive improvements and upgrades to the stadium.
Also, note the timing of this. SKC getting their name on a car during what ammounts to the "playoffs" for NASCAR. What team wouldnt get their name on a Yankee's players jersey in a baseball game right now if given the chance? Im not a NASCAR fan, but to me this is brilliant marketing and timing. Don't forget, KC is in the midwest, in the heart of NASCAR country. You want a fast way to reach out and expose your brand to 18-40 year old males in the midwest NASCAR is probably your best ticket.
well it is the Nationwide Series, which if I'm not mistaken is basically the "second division" in Nascar. The level of interest in those races is usually less than the Sprint Cup. (someone who follows the sport regularly should probably chime in on this though)
Wish it was in the Nascar 11 game for xbox. I use the Redbull car when im not driving with jeff gordons car. Id drive the KCSC if it were available.
Just because I don't know what marketing they have been doing - doesn't mean I can't comment on marketing that they announce.
No, it doesnt. It does, however, make you look ignorant. If you dont even know if the team has DP's, why comment on how they are spending their money on this one thing. You act like they are sacrificing some other marketing to do this when you dont even know if that is the case. Why comment on something you know absolutely nothing about?
