Sporting tweeted this last night after tweeting about Blessing and Volesky. Don't worry, though. There's more coming tomorrow ...— Sporting Kansas City (@SportingKC) January 10, 2017
Well this is interesting... News: After contract talks with United, forward Soony Saad will return to Sporting Kansas City, a source said. Saad was playing in Thailand.— Andy Greder (@andygreder) January 30, 2017
I was thinking it was a rather loose use of the term playing, but checked and he did finally start playing in Thailand. I always thought he was allowed to leave without too much fuss because Vermes didn't particularly rate him? Was I wrong, or has that changed? Or is the source just talkin'
Would be shocked if he came back, but he does love Dom! I could see him as Dom's backup as competition with Volesky and others until Rubio gets healthy. I think part of it was the $$ (wasn't he a GA or something funny?) I can't remember how we got him but I thought his salary wasn't against the cap and when it became necessary to move him to a cap spot it wasn't financially wise. Maybe he comes in at a much lower salary justifying his roster spot? Who knows!
I am wondering which of these forwards Vermes sees as a midfielder in disguise. Cause this is an oddly shaped roster.
I believe I read where Blessing can play in the attacking mid role. I don't believe it was an SKC backed article. Not every attacking mid can play as Vermes attacking mid, so I'd question it, but I guess it's possible. I don't see any of the others as central mid's.
Well guess this progressed past rumor quickly. Soony Saad will return to #SportingKC after two-year stint in Thailand. He'll join the team for preseason in Tucson.— Sam McDowell (@SamMcDowell11) January 30, 2017
i seem to recall him having an ability to hit long range shots, right? i'd like to see more of that (that, being accurate shots, not just long shots in general) from our team.
I am not to jazzed about this news. Soony did have a wicked shot, but was really slow and not that technically gifted. We'll just have to see how he does in Tucson. Maybe he improved over the last two years.
Unless Vermes sees him transitioning to midfield? Skillset, I could see him fitting there better than a lot of the other wingers.
I wonder if Soony is the answer to this question. He's small and slow, but has a wicked shot from distance, decent technical skill and is a good passer. To me, he could be a back up AM.
