Well let's see goal 1, Dykstra spilled an easy cross, NE pounced on it and scored. goal 2, New England counter, Juliao caught way up field, Joya slow getting back to cover for him. goal 3, Juliao lazy getting back, doesn't cover Agudelo who gets simple tap in at far post goal 4, Dykstra comes wide for a ball he had no business coming for, Juliao again not staying with his man. goal 5, penalty goal 6, Zusi stays with his runner, Agudelo, as he and Nguyen cross paths in front of KC goal instead of letting Opara take him, Agudelo slides ball to unmarked Nguyen who scores. So for the most part Dykstra and Juliao. Our two goals were nice though.
If Juliao is this bad ... how bad is Storm if he hasn't seen the field (if he has I've missed it). Blessing and Medranda and Soni looked solid in the starters group ... Didic and Ellis also were very "meh".
Two nice goals and both the type that we can really use in the coming season. As for the defensive side, maybe we were working on defensive options after someone screws up?
Any thoughts on using Julio on wing as a sub? Kind of like a 2017 version of Little K? Julio just doesn't seem to understand defending.
Well, he's a worse right back than SAS or Zusi, and I'm willing to bet he's a worse RW than Zusi, Gerso, Blessing, Porter, and Salloi. But then I virtually never believe in the concept of "this fullback is bad at defending, so let's make him an attacker." I can't think of a player that ever moved that direction and succeeded much at all. His success as an attacking fullback requires a very different skill and mindset to playing a winger. I see him having a bright future fighting for minutes at SPR.
Which is why I meant use him as a fifth fullback almost like a right wing if we were down a goal. He's good going forward and provides the team precisely what we didn't have [last year].
DeAndre Yedlin maybe? Any case, hope you're right. If He's at SPR it probable means best for the club in general.
Eh, Yedlin has looked awful every time I've seen him anywhere but fullback. But those were all international games, so maybe if he's doing that at Newcastle he's succeeding at it.
Some people, not MLS bubble people mind you think Yedlin is the best fullback in the Championship. In the one game I saw him in I thought he looked pretty solid. Seems to get high marks on whoscored.com as well.
That's pretty cool. He's definitely the best RB on the USA squad, and probably would be the best RB in MLS were he here right now.
As the club of my childhood is almost never good enough to be the Premiership, but is quite stable in the Championship, I would add that he is certainly about as expensive as any fullback in the Championship
