Of course It's way too early in the season to guess, but it sure feels like teams are going to fall on either side of the fence this season. They're either going to be good or bad, like a bi-nodal distribution instead of a lot of average teams in the middle. Just strange the number of lop-sided scores so early in the season. And since we only had one game, no guessing which side of the fence we will be on.
What? I finally bought season tickets, so the Quakes are going to dominate! At home. It isn't possible to be awesome at home and terrible on the road, right? ;-)
RSL has not looked good, but Toledo not giving LAFC a deserved red mattered. I think that was a major VAR fail. They don't win with a 5-1 scoreline if the rookie who threw the elbow is off.
That surely would have changed the scoreline, but it wouldn't have changed the quality of the two teams. LAFC was way better.
I don't disagree. It was just a point that scoreline flattered them compared to how a game well called probably would have turned out. But RSL has not looked good. I didn't even think they looked against us in pre-season.
It's going to be tough to play SKC in KC. We'll have to be focused and determined. On the upside, we should be well rested, Quintero will be back (which will be a big help), and Vako, Hoesen, Wondo, and Magnus should all be feeling confident. Go Quakes!! - Mark
What about Salinas, Jungwirth, Lima, Godoy, Tarbell, Cummings, and Quintana? I think we need them feeling confident as well.
Oooooooooh. I suck. Sorry. Quintana. I am weak. Can I plead that I was tired and in a hurry? Probably. Not. <hangs head in shame> Go Quakes!! - Mark
Wait, a whole thread about a game in Kansas City and we haven't yet revisited the great Missouri vs. Kansas debate? Let me try to head it off at the pass: "Alright, let's go into Kansas and get a win!" "Kansas City is in Missouri" "Oh" "Wait, but the stadium is in Kansas" "Now is that Kansas City, Kansas or is it a city in Kansas, i.e. 'a Kansas city'"? "Well, it's both. It's Kansas City, Kansas, which is a Kansas city" "But I thought you said Kansas City is in Missouri!?" "Well, it's primarily in Missouri but extends into Kansas" How'd I do, TS?
Well, you made me laugh anyway! When you live in the metro area, you don't think about states. Growing up in KCMO, my school friends all lived in Missouri, but everything else involved a mix of people from both states, and no one even thought about it. Oh, no one lived in KCKS, which was considered a dumpy little industrial area back in the day, but in Johnson County Kansas towns, including Mission Hills where mansions can now set you back over $1mm! Note that the SKC training facility is in Swope Park, definitely in Missouri, nowhere near the state line. Once you get outside the immediate KC area, which to me does not include Lawrence KS (would you say that Hollister is part of the SJ area? It's about the same distance) then you have two very different states. Missouri which is more urban and includes some beautiful lakes and vacation areas like the Ozarks, and Kansas which is mostly butt ugly, flat and farm-filled.
Sorry, I misinterpreted the Missouri / Kansas divide being discussed here. When I hear such a thing, I think about Confederate guerillas from Missouri burning free-state Lawrence, Kansas to the ground. I think that had something to do with the divide.
The cities came first, the state lines came later. Contrary to popular belief, there is no river between Kansas City, MO and the areas in Kansas mentioned above. Only a road called State Line. You do have to cross the Kansas River to get to the stadium, but it's pretty small compared to the Missouri River which is north of Kansas City proper, and now populated by casinos since apparently the river is not subject to anti-gambling laws! The aspect of KC history that fascinates me the most is the mob era (1930s) that ultimately produced Harry Truman. I'm sure we learned about Quantrill and the Civil War era in school, probably had to memorize lists of dates and places, none of which stuck with me after the test.
I like to pick up a book about the local mob (if possible) whenever I travel. Read this one following my trip to see the Quakes in 2012.

Let me guess. He's purchased the Mercury News for 24 dollars worth of junk jewelry, and the paper's coverage will now be exclusively focused on the Quakes?
I have a good feeling we're going to get a positive result in this one...eek out a win. Fioranelli wants to see noticeable improvement in the road effort. I think Stahre will have the team really dialed in for this one...statement road game.
