http://www.downthebyline.com/2012/08/how-good-has-sporting-been-on-road.html Some statistics I put together on our road form this season.
James' thoughts on US fan culture. http://sportingtimes.net/articles/stacking-things-up/ His reference to the current state of MLS as that of a "teenager" is a terrific analogy, imo.
Would anyone who runs a blog / is into web design know anything about how to upload really big pictures? Not big file size, but big dimensions. I have a picture that is 7142 x 3456 pixels that I am trying to upload, and every single place I've tried scales it down to 1600 or 1000 pixels or something. Even dropbox doesn't give me a direct link to a fullsize version, you have to download it. Any suggestions?
Imageshack seems to work. Just choose "Do not resize". I tested it with a screenshot of my work layout (dual screens, 3200 x 1200) and it seems like it worked... http://imageshack.us/a/img267/5483/19180813.jpg
http://wsasu.blogspot.com/2012/10/playoff-predictions.html I came up with probabilities that each playoff team would win MLS Cup based off of my Elo Rater. According to my model, SKC has a 21.3% chance to win the cup, and poor ol' Vancouver has a 0.2% chance.
Hmmm... Just to be geeky; if, per you site, SKC has a 36.8% chance of reaching the final and SJ has a 29.6% chance of reaching the final, then SKC has a 25.9% chance of hosting the final. 0.368 * (1-0.296) = 0.259
I think it would be interesting to run those stats against all of the primary starters for the year. Besides Besler, no other immediately jumps to mind as having the potential for such a great disparity.
Good idea, I'll see if I can swing it soon. I was also thinking about checking the shots of goal with Roger in vs. Roger out. I think there could be a huge disparity there as well.
I did this on Sunday, a look at Vermes' subbing. http://www.downthebyline.com/2012/11/vermes-subbing-policy.html
Feel like its almost dickish to come back here and drop a link after so long but I wanted to let you know about a Podcast put together by myself, Charles Gooch, Zachary Cobb and Laura Byrne. Its called Kick the Ball .. it covers Sporting KC and might veer into other areas once in a blue moon. The first episode is out and can be found at http://kicktheball.us - RSS feeds and other links are there. We should be in iTunes next week. It has been a bit of a passion project, I am quite happy about how it has turned out for Ep1 .... @kicktheballkc on twitter, https://www.facebook.com/kicktheballkc on Facebook.
For those of you curious of internal workings of scouting, Matt Martin of SKC's thoughts. Found it an informative reading www.wakingthered.com/2012/12/10/3702816/scouting-in-mls-part-one http://www.wakingthered.com/2012/12/11/3706986/scouting-in-mls-part-two-academies-and-ncaa http://www.wakingthered.com/2012/12...-four-trades-advanced-scouting-and-the-future
that is some good stuff right there. Wow, I think I read more informative stuff about operations in that one series that I have since I joined bigsoccer in 2001.
I've got my Elo rater back up and running this season. It actually looks fairly good for just being one week into the season. I also added odds for upcoming matches, and I'll be doing that throughout the season. http://wsasu.blogspot.com/
Totally random post, but I did a write-up of San Marino's World Cup Qualifying chances today: http://wsasu.blogspot.com/2013/03/lets-take-look-at-san-marino.html
