We first heard of the abuse allegations with the Korean team. A little over a year ago, another major scandal involving a Korean coach and a Korean-American skater made national news: U.S. Speedskater Admits To Sabotaging Rival's Skates http://www.npr.org/2012/10/05/162310493/u-s-speedskater-admits-to-sabotaging-rivals-skates http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2012/10/11/162749362/embattled-speedskating-coaches-resign http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way...ill-boycott-disciplinary-hearing-on-tampering Simon Cho admitted to sabotaging Olivier Jean's skates, forcing Jean out of the relay final at the 2011 World Championships. This was after the US team was already eliminated. Obviously it Cho was not intending to cheat, though one cannot rule out the possibility that he wanted to exact revenge on the Canadian team or Jean in particular. Cho claimed in an NPR interview that his coach Jae Su Chun told him to do it and threatened that he would face repercussions if he didn't. He claims to have refused twice before he finally gave in the third time. You can hear his interview here: http://www.npr.org/player/v2/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&t=1&islist=false&id=162310493&m=162347175 Jae Su Chun said the following about the incident after he resigned, making him exempt from having to face witnesses at an arbitration court: In short, he claims that he was shocked to find that Cho did it, but he never explains how he found out that Cho had done it. The circumstantial evidence doesn't support Chun's denial, either. Sabotage Prompts Two-Year Bans for Olympics Skater and Coach: http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way...ts-two-year-bans-for-olympic-skater-and-coach These are not the only allegations against Chun: Whom do you believe -- Cho or Chun?
Is the USA the only country in the world that doesn't broadcast the Opening Ceremony live? Unbelievable! Anyway, I'm pumped for these Games which are much more entertaining and easier to relate to than the summer Olympics. Even more pumped now since I have to wait until 5:00a Sochi-time to watch the opening!
Ivica Kostelic (Croatia) won his silver medal in Alpine Ski Racing. Discipline: Combined Downhill and Slalom. So far he has four Olympic medals. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivica_Kostelić
Marc-Édouard Vlasic - Canadian ice hockey player of Croatian descent. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc-Édouard_Vlasic Nice achievement to be in such great team.
And thus concludes the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia . In two years will be the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil , followed two years later by the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea . -G
Croatian ski racer came back from Sochi and he was welcomed at Airport Pleso in Zagreb. Videos: http://gol.dnevnik.hr/clanak/ostali...u-zagreb-sa-srebrom-iz-socija-2---324778.html It seems that Kostelic family period will end soon, last Winter Olympics for them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janica_Kostelić http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivica_Kostelić http://hr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ante_Kostelić Olympic story lasted since 2002 Salt Lake City. But their commitment and strong desire will remembered forever with the shine of their 10 Olympic medals. Medal Table: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Winter_Olympics_medal_table
