what`s your view on Maiga? Linked with an 8m euro move to Newcastle. Never seen him play. Any good?

well he scored 15 goals for sochaux last year, and was not bad for le mans before that... but then they were relegated.

in any and all cases he's certainly not as good as he thinks he is; his mentality is uber-rotten... so maybe he'd fit right in with such paragons of wisdom and humanity as ben arfa and barton.

Well one of them has gone :D

According to recent reports the deal seems to still be on for
    January or the summer.

To be honest I`m still a little unconvinced of him but he seems to be doing ok this season too....and we have a good record recently buying from Ligue 1

magpies must have money burning a hole in their pocket to shell out 7M€ for a player who's been "injured" much of this season and is going to the ANC in Jan and Feb.

opinion on the planète sochaux forum is unanimous: good riddance to bad rubbish. my advice: once he passes his physical and signs the contract, handcuff him to a pipe in the SJP changing room. otherwise he'll find an excuse not to be fit (or even present) during the holiday marathon, will come back late from africa and his first appearance for NUFC will be at emirates stadium. oh, he'll like that!

maybe he'll find new "motivation" at newcastle, but nothing in my mind could be less certain. he may score 4 goals in his first three matches. he's more likely to make the papers by wrapping a ferrari around a lamppost and then wanting away to chelsea or malaga before the end of the season. the man is a pestilence.

    as promised:

[Maïga's] nomination would already been legitimate in 2010, when he forced his way out of Le Mans, relegated to Ligue 2, because Modibo Maïga personifies with a remarkable perseverance the mid-table diva whose constant desire to leave exasperates supporters.

Maïga has outclassed the Piquionnes amd other 30,000 euro a week contract "slaves" with a remarkable series of actions and déclarations. It all began this spring when Sochaux president Lacombe announced that one player would be freed at te end of the season in order to balance the accounts. Kiev fixed themselves on Ideye, who left the club. It all seemed over for Maïga, who missed a few season practices sessions at the beginning of the season for an obscure reason involving a passport in Morocco. On August 12, he refused to play against Caen just hours before kickoff and left the stadium. He missed the next match as well, and with the help of his agent splashed his desire to play in England throughout the media.

First a declaration where the player explains that he has a family to feed. By the end of the month a further step towards the ballon de plomb with his inexplicable boycott of the national team. Things after that seemed to calm down when, after scoring a brace against Toulouse, he took the opportunity to address the public at Bonal Stadium: "That should make them shut their fat mouths(...) the supporters can sod off." Followed by repeatedly missed practices and eventually a suspension by the club. Since then Maïga has attended practices only when he feels like it, made up a knee injury the médical staff can't locate, and complained about supporters throwing coins at him.

A playing level difficult to evaluate since he refuses to play, a deplorable mentality, and a career choice focused on Newcastle... before failing his physical. A year of lead, to be rewarded in kind.
