Hehe, I have Directv, was thinking about getting Bell or Rogers, now I don't think I will, I do need EPL, La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga.

Gerry Dobson announced his retirement today after a 37 year career in sports broadcasting.....a large part of it being one of the few voices of our sport.

With all the soccer on tv today, and the production values going into it, it has hard for some folk to realize it is not too long ago that all we had were a few journos fighting to keep our sport on the air somewhat.

Yes, like Vic Rauter, it was sometimes easy to make fun of some Gerryisms but he was tireless in his support of the game and while it annoyed me no end to hear Gerry calling games being played in some central american stadium from a monitor in a studio in Toronto....but you just knew it was part of a compromise he made with his bosses to get the match on the air in the first place.

I can't, honestly, say "he will be missed"....but his contributions will and he will be remembered.

He was shocking, God knows how he had a job. Last thing he did before announcing his retirement yesterday was credit fabregas rather than hazard for the second goal.

Hope this doesn't mean more airtime for James Sharman, he's brutal too

That is kinda my point.....in days like today when networks in Canada and America devote resources to our game it is all too easy to point to Gerry's shortcomings...yes he often misidentified players and, far too often, said things like "away goals count"....but for those of us of a certain age, we can easily remember when we were just happy to have someone at a network championing the sport and working to get us the odd 90 minutes of air time.

That is what I mean when I say he will not be missed....but he will be remembered....and, yes, Vic Rauter is in that same category.

We talk about how far Canada has come since then, but I haven't seen us throwing out attacks like that!

Interesting point...but I actually think that what we have done is focus so much attention on being a tactically better and technically better national team is that we are too reserved and unwilling to just let the wind flow our hair and go for the gusto...when the chance presents itself....I get the impression that goal would never happen now because someone would put their foot on the ball, slow it down and wait for the attack to develop.

Yeah I've only been in Canada for 6 years so he gets so credit from me, just ridicule. Think he dreaded every Arsenal and city home game, "as we go back to the Emirates, I mean Etihad"... Awful.

Anyone catch those idiots on champions league referring to CSKA as Ceska, actually thought it was s word not an abbreviation.

I'm getting angry all over again, ha!

True. What we're seeing now is more of a reflection on Floro than the players. Since he took over the results have been wanting, but perhaps in the longer term it will pay off.

I am not sure it this is the right thread to ask this question but does DAZN broadcast La Liga TV? Do they have their own staff? Or they just get BeIn Sports feed? I am asking because when I was in England I saw La Liga TV coverage and it is awesome. Liga 7/24

Will there be good coverage of the Gold Cup?

Today's TFC game (3 pm Eastern against Portland) seems to be on the entire CTV network as well as TSN.

When did they start showing MLS games on CTV?

Right after the CPL game on CBC. Lots of Canadian soccer today!

CTV started airing MLS matches in 2017, just simulcasts of the TSN broadcast.

    -------

I know this will be moot at the end of the season, when EPL rights move from TSN/Sportsnet to DAZN, but does anyone know how TSN and Sportsnet divvy up which matches each network shows?

What I've also noticed with TSN's coverage is that on most matches they use the EPL's house/international feed, but they sometimes use NBC's feed on others (like this weekend's Brighton vs Newcastle). How and why does TSN decide which feed to use?

NBC use their own announcers of Arlo White, Graeme le Saux, and Lee Dixon (sometimes just one of Graeme and Lee) for one to three games per weekend including the Saturday 12:30 P.M. Eastern game. For most of the games, NBC uses the international feed. TSN may use the same announcers as NBC regardless whether it's Arlo/Graeme/Lee or the international feed.

This past Saturday, the match TSN showed at 6:30 am PT had the NBC pre-game, but the international feed of the game.

Maybe they use the NBC feeds if Wileman, Jack, and Caldwell are away doing MLS match commentary, and can't be in studio for their own EPL analysis? Were they in Colorado the night before for the game against Vancouver, then flew to Orlando for the following day's match against Toronto?

TSN don't send staff or commentators to away matches anymore. They take the feed from the home team, slap their graphics on it, and the commentators are calling the game off monitors at the TSN studios in Toronto.

I figured that would be the case, unless, of course, the game is played at BMO…

Now that the EPL season is over, have TSN and Sportsnet announced plans of what they're doing next season, now that neither has broadcast rights?

Living out here on the west coast, I often avoid finding out the score of a game to watch it later at home on DAZN. However, I noticed that sometimes, even several hours after the game has taken place, DAZN still does not have the full game available. Now that they have all the PL games, I hope this service will be improved, as I'm not getting up at 4:30 am on a Saturday to watch a game live, but I sure hope it doesn't take them 9 hours to load the game!

Does anyone have any inside info about this? Or am I SOL?

9 hours? Good grief - currently it's easy to record two games simultaneously with a PVR, and then watch one and bits of another. How would one do this with DAZN?

I'm not sure I'm subscribing - I seldom watch live, and normally 2-3 hours later.

OneSoccer is now on Roku - just in time for last night's Voyageurs Cup games. Looked pretty good picture quality!
