As did Chicago. I think we all realize preseason shows no implications of success in WPS. Seeing as 5 goals might be the most they score in their first few months of WPS, they should enjoy it now..
Heard The Beat won 1-0 against Auburn. Not sure how The Beat played, but heard Auburn missed 2 breakaways. Well, it's just preseason.
Up to 21 after second round of cuts: Katie Bethke Kerri Butler Lori Chalupny Bianca D'Agostino Keeley Dowling Colleen Flanagan Megan Jesolva Kristina Larsen Meghan Lenczyk Allison Lipsher Carli Lloyd Analisa Marquez Heather Mitts Katherine Reynolds Angela Salem Lauren Sesselmann Vendula Strnadova India Trotter Catherine Whitehill Allison Whitworth Kylie Wright
It appears they picked up D'Agostino who had been in Philadelphia's camp I think and earlier had picked up Marquez who used to be with Boston and had been in WNY's camp. So if you break this down, just considering what we know from past seasons: Legit starters: Chalupny, Dowling, Lloyd, Mitts, and Whitehill. Marginal/part-time starters: Sesselmann, Lipsher, Trotter, Whitworth. WPS Players with little or no experience: Larsen, Marquez, Reynolds, Salem. Pure rookies: Bethke, Butler, D'Agostino, Flanagan, Jesolva, Lenczyk, Strnadova, Wright. This looks very much like what a true expansion team should look like, except that they aren't and most WPS expansion teams don't.
Yes, that pretty much sums it up. Except, expansion teams typically pick up quality players in the draft, but instead, we passed on Press in order to get Wright, because clearly, we needed to stock up on mediocre midfielders...
So we're calling players mediocre now before they've played a minute of action in the league? Really?
Good point. I'll retract, how about that? I'll revise my statement to "because clearly, we needed to stock up on midfielders who have no or little WPS experience, and who didn't seem to be the cream of the crop in terms of the draft".
