I bet Blatter and Platini are happy after last weeks Champions League results its like " we get a Ref to ensure Barcelona get through to the final last year" ,, but now its still not enough to get rid of these Premier teams """ I hope Chelsea Plaster Inter

And to that other guy " more strength in depth " in Serie A ???? what ??
Milan got embarrassed last week what was the combined score Eh ????
And now Real Madrid are out Poor old Ronaldo ,, Kaka and Benzimina have not been Playing up to expectation

BigSoccer needs more intelligent arguments like this.

Based on the thread title, it's an argument that the Premier League is the best/greatest/most loved and cherished league in Europe.
    I mean, in the world.
    I mean, in the universe.
    Since ever.

    I guess.

Re: So much for the Spanish and Italian Leagues

as a european general thread discussion, the title makes as much sense as the 'is la liga the best this year' before a ball has been kicked. serie a has sucked other than head to head with epl, and other than a stuttering barca and an upstart sevilla, la liga has been shit, real madrid being one of, if not the biggest ever flop in the history of sports.

if chelsea win, and stutgart or cska prevail, the thread title will be 100 percent appropriate.

Except that other thread title was a question. Kind of like asking "Will Man City finish in the top 4(?)"
Which is a totally fair question, even if its asked before a ball has been kicked.

Note the big "if". The thread title wouldn't be a good one either way, but at least he could have waited until this week's matches were finished (including Europa League).

Re: So much for the Spanish and Italian Leagues

he is the epl villareal 8, but you lot had your turn on the last rivalry title, so im a little glad that someone got in on our side first this time, even though by friday la liga could end up wth twice as many sides left in europe and about to take the no1 slot back from us before the end of this season.

do you think the creator of the thread would understand enough english to be able to put an <R> in the title thread so that the forum hallway monitors wont go around deleting posts. (in case people who are trying to avoid learning current football results just happen to think a good way of avoiding these might be to go onto a specialist football opinions public forum)

Well, I do admit to being biased against the narrow-minded EPL fanboys. I watch the Premier League as much as any other league, but here in the US the annoying ones tend to be faux-England fans. I'm also against villarreal's nonsense diatribes, though he hasn't shown up in a while. I don't particularly favor any one league, except MLS, but my poor local league clearly doesn't belong in this kind of discussion. :D

Fulham and Liverpool have to overturn deficits on Thursday.
But indeed, an interesting night, both in London and Seville.

Re: So much for the English league

Yeah, people fell into the usual trap whereby they tried to draw grand conclusions from that one match where Man Utd spanked maybe the most inconsistent team in Europe, AC Milan. It's a shame that today's match totally offset everything that happened last week. :p

yeah, its not like italy is even a rival to the epl anymore anyway. if it had been to a la liga side other than barca i would have been pissed, but there arent any of these left anyway.(enjoy seeing pallop commit suicide in front of a honda?)

half of inters back line will be out for the next leg, and i wonder how far you can go in a tournament when all you are is a backline plus sneijder. not very far i suspect.

No the Serie A's new rival is the Bundesliga. I rate that league higher now. And soon so will UEFA.

lololol. what do you get if you combine all the teams left in the champions league from spain combined with all the teams left in from italy? isnt it the same number as the french have? from the mighy ligue un? oh how standards have dropped over the last 10 years.

Call me old-fashioned but I'm loving how the CL is shaping up this year - it's much more interesting to see a spread of national leagues represented in the closing stages

    ?

Wouldn't using that logic insult England as well, who would have the same number as the French Ligue 1 (assuming Bordeaux get through, and I think they will).

Or at least, it's your last line that really confuses me. I would say that standards have gotten very high in recent times, allowing only a few teams in Europe to compete effectively.

meh ... they still have Ivan Cordoba or is he injured? Anyway, until we see the QF draw you can't say these suspensions are a huge problem.. it always seems to come down to the second-leg anyway.

They also have one of the best striker pairings among the remaining 10 teams. Small detail you missed.

Re: So much for the English league

standards have slipped for the la liga and serie a sides as they would usualy not have fanboys like boca celebrating getting a solitary side through to the quarters, no matter how much it was his tendency to 'party'
