The 'Fire Jason Kreis' thread always seem busy, just wondering who RSL could tap to replace him. I don't really have a strong opinion on this one, I'd like to see Robin Frasier take over for the time being but is he a good permanent option?

Who else is out there? 'Who would you like to see coach RSL'? of course is not the same as 'Who can be convinced to come to Utah'?

Who would you realistically like to see coach RSL?

I am glad that someone started this thread...I was thinking about it earlier, but I tend to delay things. I think that if JK is let go then they should bring in someone completely outside of the current system. I think it will be hard to bring in an already successful coach, they just won't get the media exposure here that they could get in NY or LA. I think someone will have to spot a rising star and hope to keep him long enough to establish a good system and teach it to assistants.

so, in translation, we need to find the Urban Meyer of the MLS. Correct?
What I think would be best for the team is that we stick with Kreis until about 3-5 games left. If we are not making the playoffs, you sack him and put Fraser in charge for the rest of the season. Then, in the EARLY off-season you hire a guy who has playing experience in this league and, if possible, somewhere in europe/south america.
Its not going to be easy, but its not impossible

If you have previous experience ... and by that I mean U-5 and above .. then you have a head start on where RSL's current coach started ... you're hired.

I think when he retired last year he said he was just going to spend ime working with his charity, I haven't heard anything else so maybe he would be up for it? Given his international expereince I think he might set some decent expectations for his team.

Agreed. I'm not sure that he really would be a good coach but Capt. of the US National team sounds a lot better than Capt. of the Dallas Burn. . . If I were DC I would be talking to him.

You know with the profile of the game here being raised so much reently, I'd like to see us getting quite bold in our approach and trying for someone with a track record of some years in coaching, I'd even go so far as to say someone like John Gregory (as much as I disliked him when he was at Villa, I thought he did a reasonably good job there) who has a decent track record. He had a rough deal at QPR and Derby with no money to spend and still did ok. He has stated his desire to get back into management.

I'm not saying RSL should try for him, but there are plenty of coaches just like him, plenty of good expereince, all over the world that are looking for a team.

Agreed. I think the money it would take to sign someone like this, though not quite in the DP range, would be well spent. I personally don't see Checketts leaving the States in search of a coach though, probably not even the team (I'm betting Fraser gets the nod, which wouldn't be a bad thing either).

If JK gets canned, maybe Checketts will offer Mathis the job if he suddenly retires? WHOA!!!

Maybe the third time is the charm, bring a coach in that has both playing and coaching experience on a pro level. I know...that is to much to be expected!!!

What about that Iranian that wants to coach in MLS? Cant remember his name. Although I could see a lot of Utards hating him because he is Iranian.

It's interesting that Dallas made the playoffs under him, even won the Western conference one year. Dallas definitely got worse after he left...

Come on guys , he's a shoe in for the job. I am sure even Kreis agrees on this because he played for clarke at FCD.

Tita, please meet Mr. Checketts... Checketts, this is Tita...

Full Name: Milton Queiroz da Paixão (a.k.a. 'Tita'... pronounced 'cheetah')
    Age: 51
    Religion: LDS

    Experience as player:
International: Brazil: 39 senior caps ('79-'90), 6 gols scored, '90 WC
Clubs: Vasco da Gama, Flamengo, Grêmio (BRA); Bayer Leverkusen (GER, incl. '88 UEFA Cup Champion); Pescara (ITA); Leon, Puebla (MEX); Comunicaciones (GUAT)
    Experience as manager:
Vasco da Gama (in both 2000 & 2008, plus several smaller Brazilian clubs)
Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan's top division)
El Paso Patriots (USA, then was in USL-1 equivalent/predecessor).
    What Tita brings to table:
    • Top-shelf experience at the very highest levels
    • Network of vast international contacts: Europe, S. America, N. America, Asia.
    • 1st hand understanding what it takes to become a champion--not just talk
    • Familiarity managing players/clubs roughly at RSL's 'peer' level
    • Language skills
    • Well-versed in both "global futbol" & "local Utah" cultures (rare combo)
    • Badly-needed credibility w/ many Hispanics (incl. followers of Mexican game)
    Why Tita might be interested:
    • Demonstrated willingness to relocate for jobs in emerging soccer lands
    • Economics: the $200K~ Kreis makes would likely be a competitive salary
    • Personal/Faith: is active Mormon convert; married to Mormon; his son Lohran recently delayed his own playing career to serve LDS mission.
    • RSL = attractive gig in its own right. Great stadium...solid current player base.
    • Dave Neeleman connection: Checketts served on board w/ JetBlue founder David Neeleman. Both currently reside in same LDS ward in CT. Neeleman was born in São Paulo, speaks fluent Portuguese, & holds dual citizenship. After JetBlue, Neeleman started Brazil's Azul airline. Neeleman almost certainly knows Tita well. Neeleman is perfectly positioned to serve as go-between to make this happen.
