I thought so from day 1 of stadium being announced. Made it over for a game this summer. First of all the concourse space under main stand is tight because of road let alone being able to go verticle with seating. Major pinch point on west end trying to get to pub. Easy expansion on East end but that is about it. Still love that place - sure beats any HS stadium. But mostly I just Love da Burgh!
Oh yeah it's a great place and I love it. It'll do the team good for years to come. It's just unfortunate that from what I've heard it's probably never going to be more than what it currently is.
This isn't a soccer stadium, but I think it fits as big news/a reasonable goal for D2 teams these days. It's Fortress Field, a 6500 seat, $15 million stadium being built for the Ohio Machine (Major League Lacrosse) and Ohio Aviators (PRO Rugby). https://www.theohiomachine.com/articles/ohio-machine-announce-new-stadium-obetz-fortress-field? http://www.columbusunderground.com/more-details-released-on-new-fortress-field-in-obetz-bw1
Columbus is a legit lacrosse hotbed. The rugby thing definitely surprised me. Ohio State's lacrosse program has only been varsity for 6 years, but they've made the NCAA quarterfinals twice already. The Machine made the MLL final this year. Ohio's pro lacrosse attendance was over 3k a few years ago, but new stadiums each of the last two years put them down to about 1900 this year. It will be interesting to see if having a permanent spot gets them back up to where they were.
So this will be right next to the Crew's training facility. Taking over an old asphalt car race track that just closed. While I wish the Machine & Rubby best of luck and success, the location is awful. The lacrosse hotbed is in the northern suburbs and this location is in the south and is surrounded by mostly warehouses & manfuacturing. They drew well when they played at Ohio Wesleyan which is in north.
Interesting. The location isn't great, but hopefully having the same place from year to year can help them build the attendance back up.
Will have been. The one you're thinking of is Atletico Madrid's Vicente Calderon, which Atleti are moving out of at the end of the season. The M-30 highway runs right underneath the grandstand (sorry for the thumbnail pictures) They're moving into another standard-issue bowl 12km (about 5 miles away). The new stadium will have the advantage of covered stands - being on a plateau the winters can be a bit rough in Madrid.

I live in Madrid and the location is absolutely terrible by public transport. They've swapped a stadium which is just on the south of the centre of the city for a stadium in the eastern suburbs. If you go any further, you leave the city. It has a metro station but the line is slow. I need to get to the Calderon before the end of the season, as it's the one stadium I've never made it to.

The old Yankees and Baltimore Orioles spring training baseball site is also falling apart and located just down the street. Years ago there was talk about a water park, but then the economy turned south...
The swimming pool where US Swimming Hall of Fame & many national/international meets is located was also partially condemned a few years ago.
Memphis now has a usl franchise would love to see us build a downtown stadium like this. #defendmemphis
Yah but it's not even close to the same. I'm a nostalgic person. Hate seeing older stadiums disappear. The most saddening is Blackbaud.
