Zach Wright looks more like the second coming of Ryan Pore than the second coming of Dom Dwyer - at this point. Who knows, maybe Wright will develop further, but he doesn't seem to be able to beat anybody with the ball at his feet. He started for one of the top teams in the country, but his finishing rate was woeful. I'm sure Vermes will do everything to lock him down as a replacement for Peterson. ;)

Andy Lopez couldn't get on the field for large stretches of the season at UNC. He might be more of a long term play as he does have high technical competency and did take free kicks and corners when he did play.

Thanks ... I have very little clue about Wright's actual talent level. Maybe they could sign him to Swope Park. I'm probably more excited about some of the talent at West Virginia even though their season kind of went downhill after a good start. It's also possible the next few homegrowns we sign don't even go to college.

Doesn't he play with Jaylin Lindsey with the U17's? Two potential HGP's ... followed by Cam Duke? Would love to see them all play for Swope Park in the next couple of years!

Expect some Omaha-soccer news in the next few days, but, it won't be NASL/USL/Rayo related.

I assume this is SKC U23 team to be playing in the PDL and coached by Paulo Nagamura? or Josh Gardner (academy coach).

Sorry, it's not based on anything ... just a wild ass guess at a non USL/NASL "soccer news" that may come out of Omaha. Likely not affiliated with SKC at all and possibly in the NPSL and not the PDL. Or it could be absolutely NOTHING at all.

My comment wasn't based on anything, sorry for the confusion!

Interesting comments from Brian Sciaretta on Josh Sargent's play in the U17 WCQ tournament going on right now.

They're not untrue though, we had this discussion when mls released the average age of each team and KC was one of the youngest. While overall we are young, we start 6 players in their 30's. Only 2 players under 25 have started a game, 2 more have made appearances. Our young kids aren't getting a whole lot of time, and last year other than Medranda it was pretty much the same.

If Vermes is the sort of coach who prefers veterans, that's fine, but we should be getting value out of our young players then. They deserve to play and I'm sure there are clubs willing to pay. Hate to see EPB wasting away in storage.

Oh, I agree that it's a very fair analysis of the way PV has brought along young players. SKC frequently gets lauded with their ability to game the registration rules for Academy/HG players, but but to date have not seen any benefit from it at the first-team level. More to the point, should we expect to in the future? I don't think there's any evidence to suggest that we should.

Wasting away in storage? He's good enough by now to earn a living somewhere, he can do better than that.

No, give him a place to play. KC doesn't want to let him go, or else they would have for whatever price Porto had offered for him after his loan. He's not going to supplant Opara or Besler the way they're playing so get him games.

He's 20, his development curve is flattening out and he's making 75,000 when he could be making many times that figure. He can't be satisfied with this state of affairs, especially having been with Porto. It's not enough to get some exercise, you have to get good minutes, some kind of a challenge or it's just marking time really.

And SKC obviously has an evaluation of him and Porto didn't match it. If another club hasn't matched it, what's the incentive to sell? He may not be satisfied, but he's under contract, so unless a club comes in and makes an offer KC accepts, he's going to play for SPR and fill in where SKC needs him.

That said, watching the first half against Phoenix from Sunday night, he certainly got some challenge from the Phoenix forwards, like on this goal.

A nice play (probably not even defensible) does not imply that he is getting pushed day to day as a player of his upside deserves to be.

I do feel like he's being wasted, in a sense. He has Besler and Opara in front of him, which makes his life hard, but EPB represents the kind of young player you want to have on and to stick around your squad. Even if he's not starting, he should be getting meaningful minutes here and there so he can gel with the rest of the team and step in when he's needed. And so when Besler or Opara eventually retire, he can step in with little or no transition required. Much has been made about EPB and I'm certainly not in a position to judge how fair or unfair his praise has been, but it is a waste to Kronberg the guy for 5+ seasons then let him go at pennies on the dollar for what teams have already offered. If the team wants to make money on him, sell him; if they want to keep him, play him; but you can't play this middle ground where you keep him and don't play him. It benefits no one.

More to the point, if guys like EPB don't get minutes except at the USL level, it will discourage future possible homegrowns to sign with SKC - like Josh Sargent.

However, I think this may just be a cyclical thing. SKC just happens to have quite a few solid veterans who are in the prime of their careers or just past it. Zusi, Sinovic, Melia, Espinoza, and Besler are all 30 years old. Feilhaber is 32. Turnover is going to be painful in a year or three, and some of the youth are going to have to step up and grab some spots.

Are you implying that he's not getting what he deserves by playing with Swope Park (from a training standpoint)? He's likely training with SKC and going against their 1st team forwards regularly.
