Finally confirmed. Bonus Game A. https://www.sjearthquakes.com/post/2019/02/01/news-earthquakes-face-cf-monterrey-saturday-march-23
With so many players called up for Nats duty we will likely see some of our youngsters get minutes, such as Fuentes, Akinridge, and Cowell. The game should be worth going to just to get a little glimpse of the future. We will be missing Godoy, Cummings, Lopez, Lima, Vako, and Kashia.
I didn’t even know Monterey had a soccer team. How about Santa Cruz or Carmel? Yes- I’m kidding, but I really know nothing about CF Monterrey. Is there any special players to look out for?
You may recognize Miguel Layun, or American Jonathan Gonzalez. They play Atlanta tonight in the Concacaf Champions league on Univsion at 5.
Anyone else notice that Reno 1868 played Fuentes as a forward this weekend? I’m going to hazard a guess that Almeyda is concerned that he doesn’t have any depth up front with Cade Cowell unavailable until June 3rd. I recall reading a story on Ian Russell where he talked about the Quakes sending players to Reno and asking him to play them in specific games and positions. I think that’s exactly what the Quakes did with Fuentes who to date has played in the midfield. My crystal ball says Fuentes plays some forward against Monterrey this weekend so the coaching staff can evaluate his performance. I think I also heard that Danny has to go back to Holland to finalize the green card paperwork.
Can't Eriksson and Vako also play forward in a pinch? I don't believe that there is a dearth of forwards at least as capable as a 15-year-old already on the roster, but there is undoubtedly an excess of goalkeepers. Maybe by the time Cade Cowell is eligible, we can solve that problem.
It's a mighty drive down there Don and a powerfully long one coming back especially after a loss so I'll pass and hope for a link.
There is no shortage of players that can be shoehorned into the position but that's just like saying "let's play Shea Salinas at left back. He can do it".
I think it would be a good exhibition but I don't really see the point of playing this game during the season. Maybe in preseason but not now….
I'm good with a game during the season. It's still early in the season and will give the coaches an opportunity to try a few options.
They have a break in the regular season schedule and it's early. Plenty of players need game minutes that otherwise wouldn't get them. If they had this game and trotted out the regular starting 11, I wouldn't care much for it, or if it was jammed in between some midweek games or something like that, I'd be against it entirely. But I have no problem slotting in a friendly if it doesn't congest the schedule and if players who are normally just riding the bench get a chance to show what they can do. I wouldn't say we'll be missing them, Bob . It's actually quite sad that the Quakes have so many national team players, yet they all perform so poorly for San Jose. It does feel a bit like a curse, honestly.
Also I think Yuiell, JT will be on duty as well. I thought I read that Hoesen would go back to Holland to finalize the green card paperwork too. I doubt they will let Cowell play.
ActualIy 'll be in church praying. It’s Lent and I have to give up the luxuries. I will be in church!
With so many out has anyone figured out what our lineup will be for this game? I agree with Almeyda that having so many players out hurts us as we can’t try mixing in new players to the normal 11. So many changes makes it too difficult to learn anything useful.
