Confirmed indeed that this it is the 3rd time this season Valencia has been named out player of the month. Not sure if he'll necessarily win the club's Player of the Year as well, but he surely has to be one of the front runners.
Tony has done a great job for us this season. The collapse has been, as everyone except Teso acknowledges, in our finishing. You can't really hit Ibra too hard for his finishing, although he's clearly missed a few that by his standards were sitters. Players who must lay prostrate for remonstrance and perhaps even abuse are 1) Rooney, of course, and 2) Martial, who's had an abysmal season even accounting for the perfectly predictable sophomore slump. The above is relevant because Tony and his friends along the back line have their done job. Our midfielders have done their job. Ibra has done his job. Had Rooney and Martial done their job -- we can excuse the teenager Rashford and there can't be many complaints about Miki or Mata -- we wouldn't be targeting fourth as the salvation to our season right now. Worship the football gods that we have the Europa League to bail us out.
Interesting that on receiving the award Valencia spoke English for the first-time after nearly eight years at the club, he obviously plans to stay around.
remember all the talk a few years ago about him not being able to speak English and being barely able to speak Spanish? judge for yourselves. rare presser from him
Curious to know what language people who claimed he barely spoke Spanish, believed his mother tongue was, being from Ecuador and all... Interesting though that he's been in England for over 10yrs now and still won't speak English and needs an interpreter to translate questions for him.
He's just shy. Can you imagine Scholes giving a presser in Italian after living there for 5 or 6 years?
From that point of view, I guess that makes sense. Valencia literally feels like the "strong, silent" type who'll only speak when he needs to and alwas pretty low.
He strikes me as someone who is generally reserved but the life of the party when he feels comfortable. Pretty sure I've seen a couple silly videos of him with the Spanish crew.
I am fluent in Spanish as well as Ecuadorian from mom's side. I lol'd after I heard him lisp the "Z" on "Feliz"... Been hanging out with too many Spaniards? SMH.
Kind of ridiculous he hasn't picked up English after so long in the country. But I only speak 1.5 languages so what the hell do I know.
LOL...Sorry - I was meaning to say, "As well as being half Ecuadorian..." My Abuela spoke some Quechua.
Very happy to announce that I will stay at @ManUtd_Es 2019. I want to thank the club, my coach and the fans for your trust. pic.twitter.com/3cs8ssZupL— Antonio Valencia (@anto_v25) May 26, 2017
38 - Antonio Valencia has provided 38 @premierleague assists for @ManUtd; only six players have provided more. Extended. pic.twitter.com/flN2Ll9AuX— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) May 26, 2017
Can't say I ever thought he would be one of the players to stay for 9-10 years. If he keeps performing as he has, I'm happy to have him.
Agree, But i think we should start looking for a suitable replacement. Don't want to have another carrick situation.
Back then he could actually cross and was useful in the final third. A third of those was in the season mentioned above. Valencia has been garbage at crossing ever since. He needs to do more and we need more output particularly when the likes of Mata are ahead of him which means if Valencia does nothing we have no right side.
