The guy's a proper unit like Pallister or Vidic were. Watching him in the tunnel or right prior to kickoff when the camera panned in on him, you can just see how huge he is. And when you have a CB of that size who can play, it's a big asset.
i really like maguire, he's good on the ball and, unlike stones, still takes care of the actual defensive stuff. seems like there's a magnet on his head for defensive headers.
First Pep Guardiola said Harry has pace. Now Jonny Evans is saying it. It is very possible he has poor acceleration and agility but good top speed. Either way, loo forward to seeing more.
I was out of order in my criticism of Maguire - Merson https://www.skysports.com/football/...merson-apologises-for-harry-maguire-criticism If his first game is any indication, there will be lots of change of opinion in regards to Maguire (myself included). The bottom line now though is the fee has been paid and it's irrelevant, provided he performs at a high level, solidifies the backline and helps it become one of the very best in the league. And to be fair, he looked like he belonged too. Did not look to be fazed by the pressure but actually thrived. As previously mentioned, as far as first games with a new team goes, it was a near impeccable display on his part. Can hardly ask for more.
Was there doubt that he would improve upon the calamity that we had become accustomed to the last 6 years? Lindelof was a step in the right direction but they would still field Smalling and Jones and Young. Hopefully Ole does what’s best and phases them out completely. ******** their contract extensions.
I think part of it is that he just runs like a goober, too. He's so big, and he looks stiff as a log.
Was watching Sky Post match babble and Souness despite being sour ******** called Maguire a "complete package" in comparison with VVD. I really hope he turns out like that.
Maguire to have a similar on United as van Dijk did for Pool - Evans https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/jonny-evans-backs-harry-maguire-make-similar-impact-virgil-van-dijk
I think HM means Lindelof will look a lot better now too, as he gets to return to RCB and most importantly can focus more on his own game rather than having to constantly be covering his CB partner. It is a credit to Lindelof that he has looked as good as he has in some of his previous pairings.
Harry Maguire is a leader on and off the pitch these days. Impressive comments from him here. He clearly gets what Man Utd is all about https://t.co/NrQTwVg1Gc #MUFC pic.twitter.com/pUSUaWOfWt— Kevin Palmer 💙 (@RealKevinPalmer) September 1, 2019
Keane told ITV: 'I think he's done OK. We were talking about how good he is on the ball, but defensively I still think he's… I still have one or two question marks over him. 'I always worry about his pace on the turn. I remember the first goal against Crystal Palace where he's not doing the basics, covering round his other centre-half. 'Listen, he's 26 years of age now, you're worried if you're pointing these things out to him.' https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...tions-Harry-Maguires-defensive-abilities.html Not worried, but things to watch for.
Rodgers full of praise for how Maguire handled himself this summer. https://www.skysports.com/football/...guires-handling-of-manchester-united-transfer
I think it's a pick your poison with CB's around Europe. Every CB has a few serious deficits bar maybe 1 or 2 exceptions.
Koulibally and Alderweireld would have been a tasty pairing we could have got. Probably could have afforded it too, if we'd cleared the dross and dumped wages at that position.
You overate Alderweireld greatly. Koulibaly is excellent, no doubt. But he's not some elite stud either.
Koulibaly >>> Maguire Toby isn’t elite, but he’s better at everything Lindelof can do well. The point I was making is that we might have an even better defense than we currently do.
I think we would have been in with a chance for Koulibaly if we'd looked a better proposition in either of the last two summers. We didn't, so we weren't.
