Maybe we could get a guy like Seth Sinovic?

Cutting him was possibly Nicol's worst move.

Every team probably has a few guys like that. I imagine Vancouver fans are gnashing their teeth over letting a guy like Lee Nguyen go for nothing...

He wanted to leave so it made sense. Can't force a guy to be happy if he wants out.

Really? I remember he was a rookie who Nicol cut to make room for a broken down French guy.

There had to be a good reason for it, he was unhappy here IIRC. Nicol wasn't perfect but he also wasn't irrational enough to cut a cheap young starting defender without good reason. Besides, apart from 2013-2014 it's not like Sinovic's had some kind of epic MLS career. He was left exposed in the 2011 expansion draft by SKC. That said I do see your point on bringing him to the revs. With Tierney getting up there in age and Donnie Smith an unknown, the revs could use help at LB. I wonder if Dielna would be solid out there.

It's not an epic career, but he's had a pretty long one, which isn't a bad sign.
I think the Revs would've been stronger at that position if he remained.

I was on ESPN"s soccer page when this headline caught my eye - Spurs, Utd, Arsenal eye Tierney - sources. I thought WTF, so I clicked on the link and it said the Celtics Kieran Tierney. OK, the world hasn't completely flipped...yet.

Actually I believe it was after his second year. Also weeks before he left the Revs gave him a pay raise

Seth Sinovic, IIRC, told the REVs and, I assume, the league, that if they wanted him to continue to play for that ridiculous amount of money then they'd better trade him to KC so he could live near (at?) home. Otherwise he would retire.

Revs gave him a raise after his rookie season then waived him a few weeks later. he went on Trial at RSL and was not offered a contract. he then went on trail with KC and was signed. I believe he was let go because of a numbers game. He was waived about the same time they announced Lekic was signed

Lekic was signed late in the season, around August or so. For some reason, I thought Sinovic was waived in the pre-season or the first month or so of the season, but I may not be remembering correctly.

This. I remember reports where Nicol said Sinovic asked to be released so he could play closer to home.

Sinovic pulled the same stunt when he was selected by MON in the 2011 expansion draft, and "forced" the Impact to trade him back to SKC.

It's not like he had a lot of leverage, like he was Jeff Larentowicz or something, a guy who can just pick the team he wants to play for, right? Even Jermaine Jones couldn't get to LA until his 3rd team.

Lekic was signed in April of 2011 per Wiki "Lekić signed with New England Revolution on 8 April 2011,[2] contract terms were not disclosed. He made his first start for the New England Revolution on April 17, 2011 in a game against the Houston Dynamo. After the season, he could not agree terms with New England and instead signed with Lyngby Boldklub of the Danish Superliga on January 31, 2012.[3]

I found a thread from 2011 where Nicol said he was released because of a numbers thing. Very well he could have asked to be released

Caught this on Twitter the other day. Could it mean that Lee wants out?

Could be, but I wouldn't read too much into it. Someone paid Lee a compliment, and he appreciated it, simple as that.
