Why Chinooks? That word is mostly associated with the Pacific Northwest for a variety of things. Or helicopters.

I know that the state of Michigan has introduced chinook salmon into the Great Lakes to control the alewife population but that has very little to do with Chicago.

The plight of bein a South Sider...

Bill Murray brought a few flubs with him to SNL in 2016, and they made a big deal of it.

But when the Good Guys won in 05, all you had was Scott Podsednik on Weekend Update asking Pohler and Fey if they know anything about the South Side, to which they replied "JJ and Thelma".

    Oof

We do tend to romanticize the actual popularity of the Chicago Sting. (And this is coming from an original NASL-o-phile.)

Yes the landscape has changed over time and men's outdoor club soccer is far more popular today than in the ONASL's heyday. But the Sting were - except for a brief spike that gave people the impression that indoor was the way forward - remarkably poorly supported by and large, even by the standards of the time.

The fact they lasted as long as they did and delivered two championships is a testament to Lee Stern's affection for the thing and his stubbornness. God bless him.

But, naw, they shouldn't adopt the brand. Their current brand is not the problem, as many have said.
