According to the IMG Academy, he is: In late March, Moore was invited to train with Major League Soccer’s FC Dallas. Now, Moore is playing professionally in Torrent, Spain with Huracán Valencia CF of Segunda Division B. Recently, Turner and Moore were called up to join the U.S. Soccer U20 Men's National Team for a fitness camp that brought them back to IMG Academy. http://www.imgacademy.com/latest-he...ore-and-tyler-turner-return-members-us-soccer He's not listed on the first-team roster at present: http://www.huracancf.com/plantilla/segunda-division-b HVCF seems to be a third-division club. Moore is a '96 defender with a long YNT pedigree. He's a possible starter on the U20s during qualifying. http://www.ussoccer.com/players/2014/03/15/05/06/shaquell-moore
Nor does he appear to have been mentioned anywhere on the site. Curious kind of "playing professionally."
Huracan is also a relatively new club, being founded in 2011. I wonder if they have any affiliation with higher up teams in the area, but I couldn't find anything.
Moore turned 18 last month, so it's theoretically possible that he'd be in Spain on a pro deal now. He was listed as unattached on the latest U20 roster, however.
have you been to dallas? have you been to valencia? if nothing else, probably a lot cooler to hang out in spain at that age and get a different look and feel for life. especially if you're getting offers from MLS, they're gonna be there when/if he wants to come back
There are plenty of nice places to play, but that doesn't mean any of them are good for his professional career. I can't imagine they pay better at a third division club and I can't imagine its a better level of play. Maybe he thinks he can get into the starting lineup of the first team soon and then catch the eye of a La Liga team, but I find it disappointing that this guy was going on all these trials with many first division clubs around Europe, had an MLS team as an option, and he decides to sign with a third division team in Spain.
Does Spain have a registration window or a deadline like Germany, didn't that happen to Flores? This is hopefully a move for starting minutes, if he shows well against the big teams' reserves and has a solid season he would get interest.
I don't have all the facts, but I'm not going to let that stop me from being disappointed and confused.
I think you might be confusing the FC Dallas academy with the FC Dallas MLS first team. That is a big difference in almost every way. This quote is from the past March: http://www.fcdallas.com/news/2014/03/youth-defender-shaquell-moore-trains-fc-dallas Our intention is to have Moore officially join the FC Dallas Academy, where we can continue his development in live matches,” Clavijo said.
He did join their academy for however long it was. I also said FC Dallas was an option. Surely such an experienced US youth international who seems to be a good player would have a very good chance at getting a professional contract offer from FC Dallas. Whether or not he got that, I don't know. I'd assume so.
Probably safe to not assume anything in a case like this as it just leads to wild and almost always incorrect speculation.
He's not even from the Dallas area. Why would they add him to their academy if they had no intention of signing him? Are you saying that FC Dallas knew he was going to play abroad and just brought him in for a few months with the intention of Moore helping improve the results of the U-18 team rather than trying to develop players at his position that could some day help the FC Dallas first team? I didn't know MLS teams were doing that with their academies, and if they were, its pretty disappointing. Why are they prioritizing results over development at the youth levels? I don't have a clue who would have played his position on that FC Dallas U-18 team, but whoever it is lost game time. I'd hope that it was because FC Dallas thought that signing Moore was a possibility.
How am I posing it as a fact? There is substantial evidence to back up the assertion that he probably was offered a professional contract by FC Dallas. Don't know the situation though, so its just a guess based on the evidence out there. If someone that knows more wants to chime in, then they can.
What substantial evidence is there? Do you have a link explaining the general contract terms or something even close to saying he was offered a contract? If not, I am unsure if Dallas would even have the rights to him yet. They would not be able to sign him to a homegrown contract since he does not meet the rules to use that exemption. There is nothing I can find online that says FC Dallas put in a discovery claim for Moore. Is this where you have seen the substantial evidence that he was signed? If you have any substantial evidence, please share it in the form of links or quotes or something to help further the conversation beyond "I assume". I don't say this to be a jerk as you seemed convinced and I am very interested in this topic so please share what you have. MLS has very specific player acquisition mechanisms and they are quite varied. Outside of homegrown players, it is rare for MLS teams to just have the rights to any player they want with out going through one of the policies. http://pressbox.mlssoccer.com/content/roster-rules-and-regulations
This is the correct answer. Moore left Dallas back in August. According to the FC Dallas forum at that time, FC Dallas were hoping to sign Moore eventually to a homegrown deal but would not been able to offer him a contract until sometime in 2015 due to the homegrown rule which requires that the player be in the teams system for at least one year. There is no evidence I have seen that he was offered a contract but if there is as a previous poster claims I too would like to see it. I don't know how Dallas would have been able to sign him with out the HGR but with MLS making up new rules all the time, who knows.
Yes, Spain does have registration windows, so if Moore is signed, he won't be able to play until the start of January. Also, I'm not 100% up-to-date on Spain's restrictions on non-EU players, but I'm pretty sure that in the lower divisions they're very tight, as in maybe one per team. Unless Moore has an EU passport, this could pose a significant challenge.
He should qualify for Cotonou since his parents were born in T&T, which is why he's probably been linked to a few Spanish clubs. Atlanta area has a decent size population of people for a U.S. city that can qualify for Cotonou, Boxi Yomba is another (Sierra Leone).
Still listed as unattached as of the latest U20 roster: http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2015/03/22/00/05/150322-u20mnt-england-camp-roster
