Shaq inched closer to the first team with an injury to starting RB Iván López as Levante stole a point from RM at the Santiago Bernabeu. Iván is reported to have pulled a muscle and will be out several weeks. This injury comes as a surprise to absolutely no one and is precisely the reason Shaq was denied a loan opportunity.

I didn't see the game but Pedrolo, who came on for Iván, did a great job in his sub role, shutting down forays by Marcelo and Theo. Ivi, who scored the early opener, will probably get MOTM, but from what I've read, the GK, Raul was the real star.

Levante are currently fifth in La Liga with five points, trailing the European Champions on goal diff.

He wasn't in the 18 for Atlético Levante yesterday. It could mean he has already moved up. Or not.

Appears there's a good chance Shaq will be in Levante's La Liga squad for this Saturday's match vs. Valencia.

Iván López will be missing at least one month due to a muscular rupture in the hamstrings of the left thigh.

This article explains the reason for Shaq not being with the reserves: "The American reinforces the right side of the first team until the return of the Valencian [Iván López]."

A number of impressive articles popping up about Shaq's move to Levante's first team. Levante's management appears to hold him in high regard; they have been keeping the door open for him for the first team.

The new opportunity of Shaq Moore
Shaq Moore burst in hard during the preseason of Levante UD, showing up as one of those youth players who, as Muñiz said at the end of last season, is "on the verge of making the leap." The American performed the entire course preparation with the first team and has even been a regular in training with the seniors. But the injury of Ivan López opens the doors of his true opportunity in the set of Orriols. So Shaq leaves with options to enter his first call for, nothing more and nothing less, than in the Valencian derby.[IMG]

He was not a starter in the draw of Atlético Levante against CD Buñol; when so far he had played the first two games, disputing the 90 minutes and even scoring a goal in the victory against Elche Ilicitano. At the time of the meeting of the recent match he already knew of the injury of Ivan, reason why Shaq did not participate in the encounter waiting for a call of the first team. In this way, the first call of the American could be given with the Levant.

The Asturian coach shuffles other alternatives in the post, such as Robert Pier, Lerma or Cabaco himself. But confidence in the side of the subsidiary has been obvious, Shaq himself made the photos of La Liga at the end of August, as he had the first team to a possible injury in the position.

Shaq came to Spain at youth age being one of the most promising American players. The first team that the player came to was Levante. There he performed a test in a training match with the Division of Honor granota. Moore managed to score a penalty in the victory of his team by a goal to zero. But finally, the technical granotas of that time discarded his signing.

The captain of the US team in the youth ranks did not shy away and continued to try his luck. He signed for Hurricane Valencia in the team's last season in the Second Division 'B'. After the economic disappearance of the mentioned equipment, the side fichó by the branch of the Oviedo where it became a key piece for its technician. With the arrival of Carmelo del Pozo at Levante, the club signed him for the reserves as a future prospect.

The ace in the sleeve of Levante to make up for the loss of Iván López
Ivan López, the right-back of Levante UD, will be a month off after getting injured last Saturday against Real Madrid. To alleviate his loss, Juan Ramón López Muñiz has decided to use an ace that had been kept the club since the summer.

As the team has made official, the young American Shaq Moore has left Atletico Levante to become part of the first team. A decision that Lopez Muñiz has been able to take because, knowing the potential of the lateral 'Yankee', the club already decided to use the last spot that had reserved for an extra-community player.

What is unknown is how long Moore will be in the Levant. At the moment, the young man of 20 years will live the next 4 weeks in the dressing room of the first team, until the return of the captain 'granota'. What will happen next is something that, for now, is unknown.

Muñiz 'adopts' a right back for Levante UD
Shaq Moore leaves the affiliate and becomes a player of the first team at right back, at least until Iván López recovers of the injury that suffered in the Bernabéu. The ascent of the American right back has no fixed expiration date: it will depend on its benefits and above all on the needs that arise with the passage of the days to Muñiz.

The Spaniard holds the Yankee in high esteem, whom he considers the most profitable player of Atlético Levante in the short term. A perception that supposed a conditioner in the time of signing the last signings. The sporting director, in combination with the manager, bet on not covering the quota of extra-community players as not to completely close the door on Shaq. For example, the arrival of the Italian-Uruguayan Erick Cabaco to the defense on loan, instead of the Brazilian Marcelo (Rio Ave).

Lerma and Langerak were left with two of the three places of 'foreign' allowed by LaLiga, and the third was left to be able to lay hands if necessary of the American U-20 international. A security corridor that had already been resorted to in the winter market. Following Rafael's return to Portugal (only two non-EU players allowed in LaLiga 1 | 2 | 3), Shaq was able to participate in the first team's commitments.

Ivan's injury against Madrid has precipitated the decision. Shaq has already trained this Tuesday with the first team. He did not participate in the affiliate's match with Buñol (in which Tendillo acted as a right-back), and his presence in their duel against Paterna is also not expected. Paco Lopez, aware of the decision, will have to march without him at least for the next month. For the Yankee, the number 26 is reserved for the first team.

    http://www.fichajes.net/noticias/as-manga-levante-suplir-baja-ivan-lopez-20170912.html

The Ace up the Sleeve of Levante to replace the injured Iván López

Ivan López, the young right back from Levante UD will be out a month after suffering an injury last Saturday against Real Madrid. to mitigate his loss, Juan Ramón López Muñiz has decided to use an ace the club has been saving since summer: to use the last extra-comunitario slot for a player from the reserves.

As the Valencia club has made official, the young American Shaq Moore has left Atlético Levante to become a part of the first team. López Muñiz was able to make this decision because, knowing the yank right back's potential, the club had decided to leave open the last place reserved for foreign players.

At the moment, the 20 year old will live the next four weeks in the dressing room of the first team, until the Captain of the "granola" returns. What happens next is, at this time, unknown.

    http://www.superdeporte.es/levante/2017/09/12/muniz-adopta-lateral-derecho-levante/347400.html

Muñiz "adopts" a right back for Levante UD.

    snip:

The order leaves no room for confusion: Shaq Moore leaves the reserves and becomes a full fledged first team player, at least until Iván López recovers from the injury he suffered at the Santiago Bernabéu. The promotion of the American right back, at the moment temporary, not not have a set date for expiration: it will depend on his performance and above all the needs that may come up over the course of Muñiz' match days.

    To summarize the articles:
    -Shaq will wear #26
-He was already in their first-team La Liga photoshoot
-He'll be with the first team at least a month, potentially more if he is still needed as an injury replacement and/or if he can impress
-He's considered as the most profitable player of Levante's reserve team
-Levante regarded him highly enough to save one of the three foreign player spots for him, even though he didn't initially make the first team. This influenced them in their signings of other players; for example, they passed on a Brazilian player in part to save it for Shaq

Probably means the player expected to produce the greatest monetary return at some point in the future. Probably also important to draw a distinction between reserve team player and academy player.

I wanted to emphasize that the 3 foreign player spots of Levante have gone to DM Jefferson Lerma, GK Mitchell Langerak, and Shaq.

Lerma starts for Levante and is a Colombian youth international who played in three matches at the 2016 Olympics. Langerak is an Australian international who has 21 career Bundesliga appearances between Dortmund and Stuttgart, and was Stuttgart's starting keeper last season in the 2. Bundesliga for their promotion-winning campaign. He doesn't currently start in goal for Levante, but has a pretty good track record. Both Lerma and Langerak would be part of the USMNT pool if they were Americans, and Levante certainly didn't give out their spots lightly. So this is good company for Shaq to receive that third and final spot.

Another thing mentioned in one of the above articles is that Lerma and a couple others were considered as RB options after the Iván López injury. Lerma, according to Transfermarkt, can indeed play RB as a secondary position. The other two players considered were Roberto Pier, who started for Levante at CB last year in La Liga 2, and newly acquired Erick Cabaco, who started at CB last year for AS Nancy in Ligue 1. But the management decided to leave those guys where they are and call up Shaq for RB, because they had "confidence" in him.

Jefferson Lerma should be close to getting Spanish citizenship as it only takes 2 years of residency for a person coming from a Spanish leaking nation like Colombia. Would free up another slot -- more leeway for Shaq.

Not in the squad. Wow. Now he is not even getting third division games. Wish he could have taken that loan deal.
On the other hand, Pedrolo is 34. I still expect Shaq will debut at some point this year.

so is he just stuck in between the first team and reserve team? it's weird that it seems like they were ready to promote him but he isn't playing with the reserves in the mean time.

And Muñiz is getting a fair amount of criticism over the fact on the Levante forum in Spain. Most wanted him to be loaned to a second division side to continue his development. Having squashed his loan deal, though, he should at least play him occasionally, they say.

Certainly, after last week's letdown, take a grain of salt regarding the odds of Shaq being in the La Liga squad for Levante vs. Real Sociedad tomorrow. But at least he was one of apparently 23 Levante players to train in preparation for the match. (21 field players named, plus presumably 2 keepers.) If he's not in the 18, he is one of the first few just outside of it.
    http://valencia.eldesmarque.com/lev...edad-para-la-quinta-jornada-de-liga-santander

Levante CDM Jefferson Lerma, a Colombian youth international and one of the three foreign players, suffered a left leg muscle injury which will keep him out for at least four weeks. CB Rober Pier will slide into his place at DM. There's virtually no chance Shaq would start for Levante over Pedro López Muñoz, but we'll see if he is able to take that open spot on the squad. If it doesn't go to Shaq, it would probably go to a DM or CB.

And here's the problem. Needed to fill the bench if there's further injuries but not trusted or wanted to actually play in a game so he he gets no reserve games but also no pro games either. I honestly hope they buy someone in the winter or everyone gets healthy so he can go on loan because it's obvious the coach doesn't want to play him.

He's not ready to play for a La Liga team that's contending for a European spot (which is totally fine). He's just stuck in that terrible limbo that you accurately describe (i.e the Kyle Scott Zone). Would love a loan to segunda in January for him.
