What's new though? He hasn't played for the first team since 1/11/18. Just a little skeptical of the timing of the articles. There is an international coming up in the end of the month, maybe the authors are pushing for him to get named?

Could be his agent wanting to drum up chat on him to force the hand of the coach to play him more.

Those reporters, I suspect, lurk around here and read the same info we do and they are interested in the same kinds of things we are. Shaq is a really interesting story (to us)- makes sense he's an interesting story to them as well. Cool name helps.

I get that nothing is new now, but I'm guessing that the pieces weren't just written in the last week, too.

I think simply we have so few Yanks who play in Europe now (especially in Spain) that it was bound to run a story on him if he got 5 matches this season.

Good idea. But would his coach or fans even read Sports Illustrated to care that some Yank journalist is covering him?

Not sure but getting one outlet to make an article cascades as we have seen.

A lot of injuries for Levante. Pedrolo hasn't trained much this week, and Tono is out for the season.

Pedrolo is slow as molasses, and Coke is not much faster. Speed is Shaq's ace in the sleeve.

And by ‘so few’ you mean more than ever before?

Not at high levels, which is what everyone outside of this forum cares about.

I do hope we see more Yanks in Spain sometime over the next few years instead of in 20 years

The key word in his post is "play."

Shaq is in the initial convocado for Friday's game vs. Eibar. 22 were named to the convacodo, so I'm not sure he actually makes the 18. There is no reserve game this week, so perhaps that increases the chances of him making the bench.

Reports from Levante say that he was playing left back in training this week, but I think that's to fill a spot in training since only one left back is healthy.

Looks to be. Mentions Sarachan. The youth squads were already posted.

Isn't he too old for any other team? Besides the U-23s, but they're effectively on hiatus until (at least) next year.

He's too old for the U23s, too.

If he got a call-up, it's for the full team.

Full squad. Full national team. Paraguay roster was released and it included Shaq. Very young and intriguing roster and Shaq fits the bill. Congrats to him!

????? I don't get it. He's 21; actually seven months younger than Emo.
In any case I suspect @Gorky 's question was rhetorical.

The u23s, when they come back, will be for players eligible for the 2020 olympics, which is '97s and younger. Shaq's just a couple months too old.

Right there's no regular U23 team--it only pops up for Olympic competitions.

Nope, I just had a brain fart and forgot how old Shaq was.
