Played 60 minutes in a 0 - 3 win for Jong Excelsior over Jong Feyenoord - he needs the play time (coming off of injury)

Good to see him back. I think ONeill is good enough to eventually win a starting spot at lower Eredivisie level.

  3. Think that's going to be difficult. De Wijs, loan from PSV, has been the best CD of the 1st half of the season in AD Sportwereld or Voetbal International's best Eleven (can't recall which one). Matthy is doing well too and a good tandem with de Wijs. So not much incentive to change there. Sean has to be ready for eventual injury play time.

When I was living in Rotterdam in the mid-90s Excelsior were - by an enormous distance - the third club in the city and they really have no business being in the Eredivisie, but they're virtually a stable D1 side these days, which suggests a club with a very astute player recruitment and development strategy. Let's hope he gets PT, but even if he doesn't he could learn a hell of a lot about playing coaching and Sporting Director stuff if he pays attention to what's going on around him.

  5. Yeah, the contrast with how Sparta Rotterdam is being runned is telling. Sparta is bigger and richer, but spends by far more years in our D2 league than Excelsior this decade.
Maybe he (or EPB) should contact Dick Advocaat for a loan, as at least one of their CD's suck.

    FYP

When I was studying in Rotterdam 20 years ago (and living about a kilometre from their ground), surviving in D2 was the outer limit of Exclesior's ambitions. If you asked them "why not aim for the Eredivisie?" they'd have directed you to the nearest coffee shop.

They're never going to win anything (except maybe the D2 title), but they've been playing decent football for some time and providing a platform for some maybe-maybe-not players to show that they have a future in the pro game. If you're thinking of taking an upper-level pro licence, they'd be an ideal case study for the FO part of the test.

  7. Where did you study. Donot tell me it's at my Alma Mater the Erasmus University:cool:

  23. And Excelsior takes another away win. They won 10 times and of those 8 times away:eek:
Coach van der Gaag, who with minimal means makes his team play sophisticated football has announced he will leave at the end of the season. He needs a change of environment. If I was a mls team in need of a coach I would jump on this opportunity to hire a coach that is this good. He also did lead a Portuguese 2nd division team into promotion with a 16 point lead!

I know a nation that needs a head coach. He may even know some of their players.
