    haha I was wrong ...
Bale headed in to the empty net after a great dribble run from Di maria and shot ...

Yet funny ... the commentator made a big DEAL " Bale scored the winner in UCL final, like Zidane" ????

Marcelo did exploit a great mistakes from DF and gK to score another "insurance golden goal"

    wow ... not yet done
CR7 scored a pk to make it 4-1 in XT

Bolded part: arent the rates that originated this thread (the ones provided by msioux75) the rates given by Guerin Sportivo? In 83-84 they had Platini above Zico by 0.07 (6.84 vs 6.77)...

Worth clarifying that players needed to play 20 games (out of 30) for inclusion in the Ideal XI. Therefore Diaz (6.23, 29 games, 10 goals, 0PK) makes it instead of someone like Rummenigge (6.24, 14 games, 3 goals, 0PK) to the second team (if one would consider him as #9).
As one can see, this is different with the foreigner list, where also a few with less than 20 games are listed (Ray Wilkins, with 16 games, 2 subs in, 1 sub out).

Another example is Andrea Carnevale of Napoli (8 goals, 0PK) who played in 27 games but was 9 times subbed in and in 5 other games subbed out (missing grades). A player with such profile is ineligible beforehand for the two 'Ideal XIs', decided by the match grades.

    Just for the record though:
Carnevale gets a 6.20 in DbsCalcio (rates 23 games), dunno his rate by Guerin. He is the 6th highest rated SP (Seconda Punta) for them (doesnt count Rummenigge for too few games, whom is also considered SP)
Rummenigge gets a 6.35 in DbsCalcio (rates 13 games), Guerin rate was 6.24
Díaz gets a 6.29 in DbsCalcio (coincides on 29 games), Guerin rate was 6.23. DbsCalcio has him as their 4th best C (Centravanti/center forward).

    Assuming this is the correct difference (not the list at football-ratings blogspot, which has it at 0.24 gap);

It means that 0.31 gap (at the least) + 0.07 gap is a 0.19 gap of Guerin Sportivo and Gazzetta dello Sport together (of GdS we only know the gap is at least 0.31). But with Tuttosport and Corriere dello Sport added (used by DBScalcio) it swings to a 0.29 advantage for Zico; which still means that that those two latter publications rated Zico 0.46 points higher than Platini, at the least (can be a even bigger gap). Effectively it is the difference between the best foreigner and the 15th best foreigner.

Anyway, for such high profile player it is very strange and what people believe to be the more reputable sources (and which agenda they follow) is up to themselves.

    It is rather strange indeed.
If Guerin gave Zico a 6.77 and Gazzetta something around the 6.55 (?), it means that each of the other two sources counted here (Corriere and Tuttosport) must have had Zico in the neighborhood of 7.35 in order for his average to be the 7 that we got here... Seems like an exaggeration.
At the same time Guerin gave Platini a 6.84 and Gazzetta gave him a 6.94, so for his average of the four sources to be 6.71 the other two (Corriere and Tuttosport) must have given him each an average of 6.53 more or less.

    Somethig weird going on there...

Well Footballratings: Memorylane blogs is a very good source to refer to some pass years ... however as I said many times their ratings are often OFF according to reality ...
    For example
    - they rated Maradona higest in 83=84 season (while in reality Maradon 86-87 was much better)
    - they rated Zico 6.7 with only 0,04 > Paolo Rossi 6.66 in 83-84 ??? in reality their performance was like day and nite ...
If anyone watched serieA in that season, Zico was like Messi now ... everyone came to watch him playing ... Rossi? was like a Torres now LOL

Many Juve players got an EASY ride for they were the strongest team and they OFTEN won games (eventually champions) that's ALL

Guerin Sportivo had Zico at 7,1042, right? and Platini as 6.6607 = 0.444 higher for the Brazilian.

This is impressive if you stop to think that he was very likely to be out of his position at Udinese having to create the plays and finishing at the same time.
The "prolific" scorer Virdis has scored 2 goals in 16 matches in the previous season and the Udinese had one of the worst attacks.

But more than their great performance, one thing that these players had in common is that past their 30 they all had lower grades:

    Maradona (out/1960) 1990-1991 = 29-30 years old = 6.00

Platini (jun/1955) 1986-1987 = 31 years old = 6.33 (he had no major injuries in Serie A playing almost all games.

    Rummenigge (set/1955) 1986-1987 = 31 years old = 6.35 (w/ injuries)

    Zico (mar/1953) 1983/1984 = 30-31 years old = 7.08 (w/ injuries, first season in Europe), 31-32 years old = 6.53 (also w/ many injuries).

That's I was referring in my posts (#80, #82 and #83) in this thread: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/is...tacking-midfielder-of-all-time.2087266/page-4

I’ve always been intrigued by Falcao being rated as arguably the best player in Serie A by newspaper ratings in all four full seasons he was in Roma. He also won the silver ball in WC 1982. Seems like a fairly under-the-radar player for someone that good.

    Great topic.

Absolutely, lessthanjake. Falcão had the elegance in ball control of Zidane and Iniesta. I would put him in the middle of the two. Below Zidane, but above Iniesta. Much better physical and defensive attributes than Iniesta. When Fernando Redondo appeared, he was compared to Falcão. But Falcão was more playmaker than Redondo

I think DBS is a very good site, but a bit confusing. They should put the ratings of each game. His layout is kinda ugly too. The blog footballratings is another good iniciative but has no source, unfortunately. They just throw information, unlike this thread.
