He could have retired in 2005 and still have done more than Totti.

still going and actually seeing out a decade with the same club and breaking appearance records deserves some recognition
if someone should be player of the decade they should at least play more than half a decade, imo

duck you seem to be missing the point of this thread, its not about team of the decade, its player....If Totti had moved he would have all those trophies at Real and more but he didnt...You dont judge a player on what they have won solely, just look at his stats even though according to you he was consistently injured....Let the bitterness go and appreciate his genius, life is to short to hate such a thing of wonder and awe, Francesco Totti = footballing GOG

What stats do you have for Nesta then? How about Buffon? Show me the stats that says Nesta or Buffon wasn't a better player than Totti.

And I'm not bitter. I have Totti as the second best player of the decade and I have admitted it's close. The Ballon d'Or, titles and consistency swing it it Nedveds direction in my opinion.

we're not here to debate teams winning certain titles, don't bring this up again

Im surprised for a league that praises and values good defending there seems to be very little recognition of that here, totti/zlatan/nedved the best attacking serie players in their day

Nesta has 4 Serie A defender of the year awards for the period. Maldini had one. It's not even a debate. Anyone who thinks Maldini was a better player than Nesta last decade doesn't know what he's talking about. That you've been watching football for a decade says enough. Let's talk when you grow pubies.

Maldini was a great one but he also had a great supporting case at Milan. I'm not here to dispute how great Paolo Maldini was as I'm a huge fan of his but player of the decade? Where do you put the offensive players like Alessandro Del Piero, Roberto Baggio or Francesco Totti? Shouldn't they also deserve a mention especially since they lead their clubs to different heights? I mean Baggio at Brescia was the main man and they remained in Serie A just because of his goals. As soon as he retired, they were relegated. That tells you a lot about the player Baggio was. I've never been a fan of Del Piero to tell you the truth but he went to the top of the Serie A and Europe and then went down to the Serie B and right back up....That is quite an accomplishment in itself....
