Against dangerous teams I'd find a way to get him further up the pitch. He's too good on the ball relative to the rest of our pool to have him tied up defending as a back all game. Against the Cubas of the world, yeah left or right back will work fine.

Ian darke mentioned during the game that Dest actually prefers to play on the left which I thought was interesting.

I didn't say it made sense. I just think it's the plan.

For the Cuba game I'd like to see him on the left and either Cannon or Yedlin on the right. It's a very weak opponent, we should swarm in numbers. Send both fullbacks up and have the regista be the third CB in possession.

I’d actually be interested to see a Holmes-Wes-Dest midfield 3. (Adams would change that)

I missed the first 20 minutes of last nights game, and it was a very poor Canada showing so taking eveything with a grain of salt.

    He looked great to me.
    Speed: yes
Confidence on the ball coupled with skill: check
Willingness to go forward with confidence and produce: check
    Technical ability: impressive

He seemed (at least last night, I havent watched him for his club) to have that ability to see, and plan for the play after the next play. Call it soccer IQ, whatever, but I sensed that.

Someone with his ability on the ball probably enjoys cutting inside onto his stronger foot.

But no way he supplants Ream at LB.

Why should ream be locked in at lb?

Because he's world class out there and he and Puli will form a partnership on the left flank which will terrorize opponents.

Dest will simply have to wait his turn.

Dude your delusional. Once Ream steps down Dest will have to wait for Lovitz to retire before he can his chance.

    LB:

    Dest
    Robinson
    Lichaj

    RB:

    Yedlin
    Cannon

    Is my current depth chart.

Ream belongs in England eating pie and mash. Instead, not only did Egg Head start him but he gave him the captain's band.

While Yedlin on the best form of his career in the Prem gets benched.

Canada being atrocious doesn't negate the problems circling around Egg Head and his misuse of this player pool.

On quality Ream belongs back in the UK sheering his yew hedge during international breaks.

In reality our coach thinks he's good enough to bump Dest to RB and Yedlin to the bench.

In a 'must game' vs. Canada last nite, the manager Berhalter put Yedlin, the rb starter for Newcastle in the Prem, into the game around 80' mark but he left Dest in to play rb while Yedlin played a rw attacking role. Dest started at rb.

i.o.w., the manager who might have been fired had he lost this one, preferred Dest to protect his job over the starting rb for Newcastle.

I think he was right and the result proved it. Dest was excellent. By playing Dest over Cannon (who is a solid defender but can't get forward), Berhalter made the right bet. Cannon looked great - flawless - for USA sitting back and defending. Too bad they were games we lost because the other teams ignored the rb threat and sent in numbers on the other side knowing that there was no counter on the right.

I know that the 74 Dutch are finished. You are just another no-fun 'athletic' defending team now so having Dest on your team is a waste of time. We're happy to have him. I'll bet we beat you with Dest in Qatar.

    Fullback as auxiliary centerback: Ream

    Fullback as attacking midfielder: Dest

    Fullback as deep-lying winger: Yedlin

    Conventional fullback: Cannon and ARobinson

Who starts depends on the tactics.

Of course, Dest can also play in midfield.

    Dest is a special player.

His attitude is not unlike that of Jermaine Jones. He knows that he can contribute, so he’s going to contribute.

That dude chose the US over Holland. Crazy. He obviously believes in the program.

This team needs guys to make brash, bold statements to wake the others up. Dest is right on time.

He has some serious offensive skills. Defensively I thought he got exposed badly in the Chelsea home match and thus was benched for Mazraoui.

I agree on the Mexico match-- LB is not his position. I think playing him there would be a mistake by Berhalter.

He could be absolutely. But we just don't know. We don't know if he will even play significant minutes at RB the rest of the year for Ajax (he seems to have lost his starting place).

I'm just being cautiously optimistic about him. I've watched about every minute he's played for Ajax and going forward, he is legit. Maybe I'm being too negative but defensively I haven't been impressed at all yet.

Mazraoui seems to have picked up a knee injury so thats good news for Dest.
