Bummer. Miljevic’s release was denied by his club - which has a cup match during the window. He really wanted to come.
I can’t disagree with the decision. Reynolds career has been ruined with the position switch. He plays RB at a very average level. His defensive instincts are miles behind Bonilla. Bonilla isn’t a bad player, and could find his way onto this team for qualifying and the U-20 WC, along with maybe a homegrown contract soon enough, but his upside is the question.
So what I know On the roster: Ochoa, Shakes, Sepulveda, Hoffmann, Tessmann, Kelman, De la Fuente, Haak, Hoppe, Bassett, Gomez, Roberts, Harper, Bonilla, Hawkins De la Fuente - will only play the first four days of camp Miljevic and Araujo - denied a release by club Balogun - declined invite Llanez - invited but injured
Bonilla is tenacious, intense and busts his ass for 90 minutes, Attributes that Reynolds should be trying to develop more of. Always felt Reynolds (who undoubtedly has awesome physical skills) had the red carpet rolled out for him by FCD and National Team for so long that it negatively affected his mindset.
Having watched Reynolds play for years in the youth set up, I agree he had it a lot easier than most at FCD. But he has physical tools and comes from a pedigree of soccer with his Dad having playing on the youth national team. He may be reaching his peak at FCD now but he is still very young. Bonilla has always had that edge since he was in the u10 days as a wing midfielder, playing with flair and attitude. Not sure he projects anywhere other than mid level MLS guy but he will bring intensity to every game. He seems like a Moises Hernandez of Victor Ulloa type.
I wouldn’t blame Reynolds. The guy was a raw winger/striker and all of a sudden the team needed some practice players for RB, so he was moved to RB. A player like Reynolds should not be playing a position that requires him to be playing reactive soccer, which you have to do a lot of as a RB. His soccer IQ is just never going to be high enough to warrant the position switch. It could improve, but it was bad at a position you can afford it to be worse, it’s highly problematic as a defender.
George Campbell from AUFC seems to also be called up #usmnt u20 calls up #atlutd campbell— Doug Roberson (@DougRobersonAJC) August 30, 2019

Callup tracker in progress here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lfMvt087D65kHEJtitNuODh4dPgpKCQTi6Ae9VJ2c0g/edit?usp=sharing Who are the confirmed pro contracts in this list? Of the top of my head, I have Bassett, Campbell, Haak, Kelman, Ochoa, and Roberts.
For those curious about the two NCAA players... Boateng is a 6-2 freshman CB from the Sacramento Republic academy. UCI had the top-rated recruiting class in the country and he's a big reason why. As his name implies, his folks are Ghanaian. https://ucirvinesports.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4326 Schulte is a big (6-4) GK who made some waves this spring playing as an academy player for St. Louis FC when he helped them win a US Open Cup game my making a trio of saves in a PK tie-breaker. http://www.slubillikens.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=211805482&DB_OEM_ID=27200&Q_SEASON=2019
The US U-20s will be playing Croatia on Thursday, September 5th and the United Arab Emirates U-23s on Monday, September 9th.
As if we need more confirmation that Gomez has left the FCD academy, they didn't congratulate him on the callup And I don't blame Johan. I mean, this one is about opportunity. FCD already has two teenage forwards on their first team roster in Ferreira and Pepi. Where did Gomez stand in the pecking order? Well, at least for the next couple of years his future would seem to have been with NTSC. If he has better offers than that from abroad, then you can't blame him for pursuing those. We'll see.
