Of the 61 games, only 6 will not be officially available n the US if you include streaming services like espn3, FoxSoccer2Go and beINSport-Connect. That's quite remarkable and should remind us how lucky we are with soccer coverage in the US!!!

Is there any official reason (heat?) as to why the USA plays during work hours?

My guess would be that they don't have lights at the stadium or at least not good ones.

As I mentioned in the BEIN thread, Live soccer TV is not listing all of the South American qualifiers anymore. (Last week they did list them on BEIN.)

Are they pulling off the same Pay-per-view threat again like they did back in March????

No threat this time around. All the matches will be available, although the kickoff times are so bad it must have been a nightmare for beIN to put the schedule together. I'll be publishing the schedule over the weekend.

BTW, they ARE offering all the matches via PPV as well. I'm guessing its for those with providers who do not have access to their channels and especially "Connect".

Fios thinks NBC Universo is showing St. Vincent and the Grenadines vs. USA on September 2 at 2:30 P.M., which is 1 hour too early. You don't have that game on NBC Universo. Does NBC Universo have the rights to it? El Salvador vs. Mexico will be on BeIN n, Telemundo, and NBC Universo. Does anybody know of a soccer game that was on three national TV channels in the same language at the same time?

DirecTV has the St. Vincent and the Grenadines vs. USA on its guide too but I am going off an official NBC Deportes press release that states that the match will only be on the Telemundo En Vivo Streaming App. The fact that they also announced a 30-minute pregame for the Honduras vs. Canada match on NBC Universo confirms that. (I wouldn't be surprised if they have a look-in to the USA match during this pregame as they do have Spanish language rights).

As for El Salvador vs. Mexico, beIN only owns English language rights for the region. The match on beINSport-ñ will actually have English commentary (same for USA match).

Some changes in beINSport's coverage of the CONCACAF qualifiers Friday night: they are now going to join the Panama v Jamaica match at the end of the Haiti v Costa Rica match (approx. 9:50pm). Then they will join El Salvador vs. Mexico at the end of that match (approx. 11:25pm). This means they are dropping El Salvador vs. Mexico on beINSport-1 but having it in its entirety live on beINSport-ñ (in English!).

Some changes on the delayed broadcast side too. Here is the updated listings: http://soccertvblog.com/concacaf-tv/

On Tuesday your website should say joined in progress for Mexico vs. Honduras on Fox Sports 1 and Univision Deportes because it will start before USA vs. Trinidad and Tobago ends.

There will be about a 7-10 minute overlap. There will be so much split screen and cutting from one to another (especially on Univision Deportes) we won't know when one ends and another begins.... ;)

CONMEBOL and CONCACAF are stupid organizations. You'd think they would follow UEFA's lead and stagger these games better. I know that it took UEFA until the last round of Euro qualifiers to figure this out as well, and expecting anything bordering on intelligence from CONMEBOL is a very big ask. However, I can't see why these other confederations haven't figured out the best ways to make use of FIFA dates. For example, CONMEBOL and CONCACAF could use Thursday and Friday for games and then turn around and use Monday and Tuesday. Both confederations do have small enough competitions at this point that such staggering is easy. By staggering across days, then it's easier to stagger across times to maximize continental and global TV audiences while avoiding disrupting local attendances.

For example, let's say Thursday is Bolivia-Peru and Ecuador-Brazil and Friday is Paraguay-Chile, Colombia-Venezuela, and Argentina-Uruguay. This kind of situation in terms of countries is very normal for Liberatadores kick-off staggered times, so the same could happen with national teams. Then on Monday Bolivia plays Ecuador, for example, and Brazil plays Peru. The same round-robin thing happens with the teams that play on Friday and then play on Tuesday. Do the same with CONCACAF.

This would eliminate the JIP problem, it would eliminate the inability to schedule network pre- and post-game stuff since right now the networks are jumping from game to game, and it would mean that TV viewers could watch games other than their own national team if they want.

One more addition to my point above. Kudos to BeIN (something I don't say very often) for creatively making use of the two networks so they can show multiple games at once, but I think they could do better. Why show the US game on BeIÑ when they could show a CONMEBOL repeat at that time and then show TT-Guatemala live with English. Then follow with Panama-Jamiaca on BeIÑ and BeIN could go with US, Costa Rica, Mexico. They could, in theory, get all 6 games aired live and uninterrupted (as long as CONCACAF would hold start times). But as it stands, BeIÑ follows the USA game with the 3rd or 4th repeat (at least) of Ecuador-Brasil. There's no need for that many repeats at this point.

I think two teams playing each other on the second matchday of the pair, which is only 4 days after the first matchday, should be on equal rest. In the CONCACAF Semifinals, one or two groups could play Thursday and Monday and one or two groups could play Friday and Tuesday. I wouldn't like if there was a game on Tuesday between a team that played on Thursday and a team that played on Friday. In the Hexagonal of qualifying for World Cup 2006, there were two games on Saturday March 26, 2005, and Mexico hosted USA on Sunday March 27. On March 30, Mexico got only a 1:1 draw at Panama, which was 1 of the 2 points Panama got from the 10 games. I don't know if Mexico would have done better at Panama if Mexico had as much rest as Panama, but maybe it would have mattered. USA won the group on head-to-head goal differential. If Mexico had beaten Panama, Mexico would have won the group, although some people don't care who wins the group as long as their country qualifies.

If I remember correctly, the south american games for the last WC qualification used to have mostly stagered times. I remember being able to watch 4 games continously with the least appealing game thrown in there whenever. Not sure what happened to that this cycle. I actually remember wishing that UEFA would do something like this. But back then most of those games were played on Saturdays and now it's a weekday. Maybe that has something to do with it.

@sitruc Of course, but people who go see their countries play live wouldn't be affected by staggered days and times. Also, while everything is not about TV, that's where the money's at these days. If I was programming a network like BeIN/ESPN/Univision/NBC or Televisa/Azteca (probably the networks that are paying the most for CONCACAF content), I would say that the content is not going to be useful if I have to JIP. I know fans get pissed when Sky re-arranges English football schedules at the last minute; this wouldn't be a last minute change. Networks would pressure confederations to schedule with staggered dates/times in advance. Again, none of this has an affect on local fans who go see their countries play live as long as the confederations avoid scheduling at ridiculous times. CONMEBOL uses sensible times for Libertadores, scheduling 2-3 start times each MD and CONCACAF is close (just need to tinker by 30 minutes or so).

@EvanJ That's why I note that the confederations need to plan the matchups. Basically anyone who plays on a Thursday then plays on a Monday and anyone who plays on a Friday plays on a Tuesday. The idea is that the rest is the same (more or less since travel times are going to affect rest). But rarely do we have multiple weeks in a row of FIFA dates. This means that scheduling is always done so that teams are on the same rest. They don't schedule a team that plays on Friday to play on Monday, for example.

@socceraction has many of these matches also on ESPN3.

Does anyone know if the ESPN3 option will have English commentary or will it just be the Deportes feed?
