Three days after being re-elected president of FIFA, Sepp Blatter apparently resigned:

    http://www.espnfc.us/fifa-world-cup/story/2476671/sepp-blatter-resigns-as-fifa-president

    ...and then apparently he didn't:

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/06/26/sepp-blatter-resignation_n_7671084.html

Shortly after it was announced Blatter was facing criminal charges, FIFA's Ethics Committee wasted no time in banning Jack Warner for life:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/30/s...er-executive-from-soccer-activities.html?_r=0

When FIFA's major sponsors coordinated their efforts and called for Blatter's immediate resignation, Blatter's attorney's responded:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/03/sports/soccer/sepp-blatter-coca-cola-mcdonalds-fifa-resign.html

...and FIFA's Ethics Committee took action again:

    http://www.worldfootballinsider.com/Story.aspx?id=37862

Whether it's a matter of days, months, or years, the career end of the guy who has been FIFA's president for over 17 years deserves its own thread.

I politely disagree, if only because I hope there's not much more to say here vs. the rest of the FIFA scandal. IMO the two are so intertwined it's hard to speak of one without the other.

He needs to go, and his successor needs to be from outside the fold. End of.

Point taken; however, IMHO Blatter is an enigma deserving of his own discussion.

While other FIFA officials facing criminal charges have been suspended or banned, Blatter remains in office, despite being under criminal investigation and regardless of calls from major sponsors for his immediate removal.

I like many others are curious what in heaven's name it will take to remove this guy from office. The Teflon Don looks like a syrup drenched stack of pancakes next to Blatter.

I too hope there is not much to say here, because I want to believe very badly that it's just a matter of days.

Sadly, I'm convinced it will take handcuffs or a bullet.

Suing Sepp because the ExCo didn't approve his salary? meh. Sounds more like negligence on the part of the ExCo.

Sepp being personally liable for FIFA's legal costs associated with the MC/Visa scandal? meh. Probably not going to happen even if the rest of the ExCo agrees with him.

Taking legal action to prevent Fifa’s Ethics Committee banning him from standing for the presidency and calling into question the integrity of the ethics committee? Better odds than the other legal threats, but that's not saying a lot.

Although, it is interesting that the Ethics Committee has suspended or banned almost everyone other than Blatter once they've become part of a criminal investigation.

Getting sued for defamation of character? Most likely.

I thought the end for FIFA would get ugly, but I didn't envision it getting this ugly.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if the adjudicatory arm of the "Ethics" Committee ratifies the investigatory arm's suspension recommendation.

    Guaranteed entertainment value.

Either they won't, which will still be hilarious, or they will.

So what do you think Blatter is doing right now?

I say he is munching on a Happy Meal and washing it down with a nice, refreshing Coca-Cola.

Yeah, but Issa Hayatou can. He's stated he doesn't plan to run for president, and apparently he has no plans to become the champion for reform during his interim stint:

Here's the latest from the BBC, which I assume stands for Bismarck Broadcasting Company:

    http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/34483711

I think the most shocking revelation in that statement is the word "friend".
