Bro please get checked out for cancer.
There was some real tall gangly MLS forward who played for Seattle (or was it New England) and maybe the Galaxy at some point. He won a cap or two. He was hot garbage though.
Nate Jaqua is 6'3".
He's an ultra-runner now.
wtf is an ultra-runner? he seems too tall for whatever it is.
Ultra-runners do races of distances longer than a marathon.
This is Jaqua's results page: https://ultrasignup.com/m_results_participant.aspx?fname=Nate&lname=Jaqua
He won a (ho-hum) 50K a couple of weeks ago, and won a 100-miler in Hawaii in January, with a time of 22:37:54.
He's finally found a sport that he's good at. Well done Nate.
Cancer? Well, I have spent a lot of time on this site...
So basically a competition based around who can handle boredom the best.
You scoff, but ultra-running is likely humanity's sole physical-based natural advantage. Over distances of 20 miles or so, a well trained human can out-run a horse (there's a race every year in England). The achilles is an amazing energy-return mechanism. Before our ancestors out-smarted the rest of the world, our advantage was multi-day hunts where small groups of humans (or our non-human ancestors) split animals out from the pack and just kept running at them until the other animals, which could only sprint away and not run long distance, got too tired to run anymore.
That advantage is lost on me. I’ve got 3 miles in me.
Ultra running isn't hunting.
If Jaqua were splitting up herds of bison over 50K, spear in hand, providing food for his tribe, well that's a little less boring.
Instead he does his boring runs, then stops in at Whole Foods.
Yup, they still do it in at least South Africa/Botswana. The San people that is. I saw it on a docu. Pretty amazing tbh. So as long as the animal doesnot manage to make you lose track of it, it's just keep jogging up until it just has to give up.
Give it a week or three and a hungry stomach and your mojo is running to kill.
That would be a lot more entertaining. Add in he and his family doesn’t eat if he loses. Stakes get real then.
Friend of my kid's grandma (66+) does double marathons. My knees swell up just looking at her.
Exactly why I'm married today. Wife split me out from the herd and chased until I couldn't run anymore. The most exhausting 15 yards of my life.
You mean "steaks"?
Admit you gave up after looking at those long Dutch legs and thought "that's going to be pretty useless to run against"
So do the steaks.
OK, I'll show myself out
And it's an ability that doesn't erode until you're into your mid 40s.
As @ArsenalMetro pointed out, Jaqua won a 50K a couple of weeks ago, and won a 100-miler in Hawaii in January.
He turns 38 in October
So no new goals for Nova?
They haven't had a match in two weeks with the league pushing everything back for Ajax plus the cup final, so no.
Two games left in the league: away to Groningen on the 12th, home v. Feyenoord on the 15th.
Coming sunday, May the 12th, 14:30 cest:
Start v. Tractor Boys of Groningen. Fortuna not, down 1-0 around HT.
