Fantastic work Scott! I'm glad to finally know the answer. Here is the full quote for those who don't want to search the article. All very interesting stuff. Looks like we are looking for another DP.
Time to say thank you, because my time at @SJEarthquakes has become to an end and time to move on. I had wonderful 1,5 years at great this great club. I wanna thank every single person, who i got to know during my time at Bay Area. All the best and a lot of success in the future! pic.twitter.com/VaDzsql93L— Jyri Nieminen (@Jyrinieminen1) June 15, 2019
Interesting time to leave. He was the only holdover from Stahre’s staff. Seemed weird that he was retained while Almeyda brought his own guy in.
I only saw him putting up a camera on a long pole and moving it every half during games. Wonder if this is a result of a lack of progress with Tarbell (as measured by the game against Sac)?
Will the Quakes consider putting Godoy on season ending injury list? They did that with Cummings two years ago. That opens up a senior roster spot if they have plans to bring in some players
I don’t know about that, but Tarbell was still following the 2018 play book with all those long balls. As someone else pointed out the defense was visibly irritated with him for not trying to play from the back.
If that's the case, I want to know who is getting canned for all the poor decision making by Cavillo his last start.
Ok, so we know that Fierro has joined and taken the final open slot (and last international spot). Any idea what number he’ll wear? Also, how does Rios effect the roster? Quakes will need an international and senior roster spot. Does Vega or Cummings get a green card? Maybe Kashia or Eriksson? Who leaves? One of Bersano or Tarbell loaned for the season to Reno? Ockford? Or is it more likely that since Fierro and Rios play in mid/forward positions the Quakes loan out either Calvillo or Luis Filipe? Or is a trade in the works? Quakes could offer a 2 for 1. I’m thinking Rios hasn’t been announced because the Quakes are moving some pieces around. I’d bet it’s the green card issue that is holding up things.
Good luck in Nashville, Jimmy!#VamosSJ https://t.co/FwTRzPdPdU— San Jose Earthquakes (@SJEarthquakes) July 15, 2019
Makes sense. He was the odd person out. With Cummings back, Affolter a good enough backup, with Luis Felipe also capable of playing as a center defender, Ockford was the least likely to get playing time. Hope he shows well for Nashville. Kind of expect that loan to spell the end of his time with the Quakes beyond just the loan period.
Yeah, looks like Nashville is doing us a favor so we have an open roster spot. Maybe they are paying a prorated amount of his salary this year so the Quakes have a little more cap space?
A Jimmy Ockford game worn pillow kit from the 2018 season is in the History San Jose Soccer Legacy Collection, having been donated by the San Jose Earthquakes. Something to remember him by if this is goodbye and he tears up the league for Nashville.
As of now Ockford is on a short term loan to Nashville, not a permanent one. He also takes a Supplemental Roster spot, not a Senior Roster spot, which is what you need for Fierro or Rios. More changes have to come to make all the pieces fit.
