Well, no surprise there. I'll update our allocations for this and next year as well. In doing a little research on the expansion draft Kansas City, D.C., and Seattle media are reporting that teams are compensated with $50,000 in General Allocation Money when a player is selected. I'm adding that as well.

I'll move Wynne to a Retired? area.

Lastly, I'm shortening the staff per a discussion we had last season to just the upper office and coaching staff.

I would guess Ockford has to be senior roster due to age. Tarbell graduated from Generation Addidas (too many total games played to qualify any more I think) and is on the senior roster. I sort of doubt Wehan or Luis Felipe make only a minimum salary and they may well be senior roster too. I notice at the Quakes website they're very good at adding new players to the roster and very poor at taking them away (Mfeka and Wynne still being lister for example).
And I suspect all of this...
    ...---* STEWART waived- 12/15/16
---* MEREDITH, GOODSON, BARRETT, GOITOM, INNOCENT, LENHARDT, & SHERROD released, PELOSI
& THOMPSON released with the intent to renegotiate - 12/2/16

    ---* KOVAL waived - 2/27/16
---* Targeted allocation money and an INT slot to Rapids for general allocation money - 2/25/16.....

....can come off with the next edits just because it's old news and predates this offseason.

Welcome Magnus Eriksson! I assume that a lot or all of the 1.2 million each team gets in Targeted Allocation Money has been used on the transfer fee, and maybe some of the allocation moneys we acquired. Robert Jonas is also suggesting that GAM was used to buy down either Wondo's or Dawkin's contract to create another DP spot.

I'm also making KMJvet's edits, except that for now I am leaving Felipe and Wehan where they are for now. That part of the supplemental roster is more about age than salary, which is listed in the rules as a minimum rather than a maximum. Hopefully we'll get union number or an updated roster page to help with this soon.

It's great we got Magnus, but I hope we didn't use up all the money that could be used to improve the defense. We need one if not two good CB's.

It might be that even if he wasn’t brought in with the intention of being a centerback, that Flo is now considered a first choice CB. The 2nd spot will be contested between Ockford & Cummings. Based on what was expected back when he was signed, it is likely there’s strong hopes that Cummings can be the athletic one to combo with Flo’s organizational skill. The loser of the HC & JO competition and Affoelter are the backups. And the new youngster goes to Reno and we hope he can earn minutes not just adjust to the life of a pro player. If they think the kid can be the emergency only CB, perhaps they are really done at that position.

I think what they really might still need to look for is a right back. I don’t know if the draft has any depth there, but maybe. Or maybe beyond Hoesen, RB is really all they’re still looking for in the market now? I would guess they deemed Beita too expensive for a backup, assuming they see Lima as the number one.

I think it’s common now for teams not to fully fill rosters. But I think they’ll fill at least 2 more...a right back and either Hoesen or a forward. I wonder about Pelosi still. I know they don’t want another Lenhart fiasco, but I wouldn’t wonder if a veteran minimum could be an option for him...or a signing with Reno...once he’s recovered from hernia surgery and if he could pass a medical.

If the finally decide to buy out Dawkins, which I think they should do, maybe the could also look for a DP level upgrade over Ceren.

I suppose you can make a team out of the pieces that are there but I'm not sure the team is any better. So we lost Urena and possibly even Hoesen. So let's say (wave of hands) Magnus compensates for the loss of both. And the only other change is Qwiberg at LB, and you are one injury from a Salinas at LB redux.

Flo was already a CB regular, Muma beat out Affolter, so we are depending on Cummings being an upgrade to Muma or we are no better than last year. Also unless Ockford plays we still have a smurf set of players that is going to get hammered on set pieces.

We need to try to get like 50% better not 5% better.

Salinas is a serviceable left back backup. One always feels like he is going to give away a penalty kick on any tackle in the box...but he’s not slated to be a starter. And he’s good enough in other respects.

There’s no reason to believe that Cummings isn’t an upgrade to an aging Muma, but we have not seen him play enough to say either way. Set piece defense is mental more than physical so taller than Flo isn’t necessarily the answer, but I do think Ockford will be given a chance. If it’s height we’re talking about, if the Hoesen deal falls apart, I probably would set a 6’3 minimum requirement for any forward signed though. The lack of height offensively on set pieces bugs me more than defensively.

But it’s still really right back that’s the problem. That’s currently Lima and no one. Hopefully Lima learned something last season that’ll help him be less injury prone, Ibut either way they don’t have any decent depth there. I think Affoelter is a no go to back him up. With Cato, Sarkodie, and Wynne all gone, we got nothin’.

I think if they’re seriously looking at centerback, it’s because they still want to play Flo as a #6, and then to allow Godoy to be more an offensive-minded 2-way center mid. But then we have an immediate international slot problem because I seriously doubt there’s a team out there with a better-than-Flo domestic or green card carrying CB that they’d be willing to offload to make the “better” leap forward be at CB.

These are all relatively minor tweaks to a defense that was historically bad. We need major, major improvements. Cummings for Muma and Qwiberg for Salinas is probably not going to do it. We don't even know if Qwiberg will be better than Salinas, or, heck if Cummings will be better than Muma. Adding a backup right back (and BTW Colvey would have been fine in that role) is not going to do it.

I would do some serious roster rebalancing (including buying out Dawkins) to make significant improvements to the defense. Just by buying out Dawkins you free up around $500k of cap space and a DP / international roster spot. You could do a lot with that.

Salinas has played right back before, in Vancouver if I recall. He could fill in either side if needed. Flo has also played right back in Germany.

You don't really want to put Flo out there. He is best either at CDM or CB. Really you've got to have more than 3 outside backs. They had one in Colvey - can play either side but let him go. Bad decision.

Changing 3 of 4 in the back line is not a minor tweak and you have no idea how much better the new players are or aren’t.

I count 2 of 4 - Qwiberg (possibly) for Salinas and Cummings (possibly) for Muma or Affolter. You don't have any idea how much better (or worse) because none of them are, by reputation, clearly better than the previous. That's the problem. It is a gamble and has equal likelihood of going up or down. When your status quo was already way down, down from that, er, downer, is a big, big problem. Our GD would be in the 40's or something.

That's why I'm saying - buy out Dawkins and acquire at least one known quality defender, maybe even for DP money.

Almost everyone but the Quakes, apparently, thinks they should do this, but I doubt they’ll get a CB.
