By the way, Cyprus' overall population is roughly the same as San Jose. My guess is that San Jose's GDP is orders of magnitude larger.
Well, if this is any indication, American Louis Bennett II (formerly of the Chicago Fire U23 and Swope Park Rangers!) played there in 2016.
The phrase screw the pooch, meaning to mess up, commit a grievous error, was made famous in Tom Wolfe's book The Right Stuff. The phrase is a euphemism from US military slang. The original expression was ******** the dog and meant to waste time, to loaf on the job.Oct 10, 2004
Interesting, but that article is a bit old, April of 2016. I guess that's what you meant by "recent rankings". One MLS troll thought MLS should not be above Liga MX, saying MLS hasn't beaten any MX teams and I thought I just read both Toronto and NYRB both won, then I checked the date. Calling MLS "Pretty much main stream" is also a stretch, even now.
Ha! Yes I witnessed an old Aussie dive boat captain use that phrase "f*cking the dog" when lamenting about someone on his crew leaving the ladder, that divers used for climbing onto the boat, deployed just behind one of the two screws that drove the boat. They started the engines, took off and about 20 seconds later the boat stopped and the colorful language began.
Ha, ha!! One of my first snorkle trips included an Aussie boat captain. While I was in the water, my wife asked the captain about these tiny sea snakes we had seen in the area. The folks at our resort told us they were harmless. The captain told my wife they were super deadly poisonous, except that their mouths were to tiny to bite people unless you stupidly stuck your finger in. I left the snakes alone. And what has any of this got to do with the roster?! We need a back up left back!!! Go Quakes!!
Wikipedia says this regarding some teams in Cyprus' league: In the 2008–09 season, Anorthosis Famagusta FC was the first Cypriot team to qualify for the UEFA Champions League Group stage. Next season, APOEL FC qualified for the UEFA Champions League group stage, and reached the last 8 of the 2011-12 UEFA Champions League after finishing top of its group and beating French Olympique Lyonnais in the Round of 16. Google says San Jose's GDP is ~$77.5k vs ~$35k for Cyprus.
You misunderstand the meme. It alludes to the fact the if I remember correctly not a single "international" player during Doyles time here got a green card.
My old boss had an alteration of that phrase. I had a horrible hacking cough for a couple of days, and he finally said he said he would replace me with a dog and shoot the dog. I swear it had absolutely nothing to do with my job performance.
Wow. How many different groups could you have gotten to fund your workplace harassment lawsuit: feminists, animal rights activists, anti-gun activists, the luddite anti-automation crowd?
BREAKING: Earthquakes sign SuperDraft selection Paul Marie. ⚫️🔵Welcome to the club, Paul! https://t.co/MSXG8rS4GE | #ForwardAsOne pic.twitter.com/JeVYU44j3j— San Jose Earthquakes (@SJEarthquakes) March 16, 2018
he was British (and still is, although now he is a US citizen too), so I guess he got a pass. Actually, he was a great guy who did a lot for my career. And back then, people could pretty much say anything, and no one cared that much about shooting animals. Nowadays of course, people care more about shooting animals than shooting children. Please excuse the political side-track.
As expected... I'm still not sure this is the best use of an international roster spot (instead of signing Marie and sending him on a season-long loan to USL and saving it for a difference maker in the summer), but hopefully Marie will be worth it... and who knows maybe he'll get a green card by the time the summer transfer window rolls around. Edit: Marie has immediately been loaned to the club’s USL affiliate Reno 1868 FC and can be recalled at any point this season. It's not a season long loan though, so he's taking up the INT spot even though he's with Reno.
Can't we cut people before the mid-year draft window? So if this didn't work out and we wanted to spend some Garber Bucks (tm) we could cut him and sign whom ever? If so, what is the downside right now?
I think we can rearrange his loan deal with Reno to take him off of our roster, so there might be no downside at al.
So, Hyka gets a Green Card and we have signed Paul Marie. I would imagine the roster is pretty set until the transfer window. ________ Salary Budget Roster 1.
