Micale told do FIFA: Rogerio Micale, Brazil coach "For us, we have a concept of football that involves us playing an offensive game, looking to score every time we have the ball. And of course we had some difficulty today. But this is at least the kind of football we are trying to play. In the final stages of the first half, all of the second half and all of the extra time, Brazil had control of the game. And we had so many shots on the goal. It would have been very bad for the sport of football if we had been eliminated today because we were the team really trying to score, whereas Uruguay were trying to defend all the time. Thank God justice was done".
Well not the most diplomatic speech of all times, but he certainly has the right mentality for a Brazillian Youth NT
I dont see any of the games being shown on Fox Sports 1!! Telemundo is showing the Brazil v Portugal game at 9 pm EST!!
Portugal missing easy chances but this last one was the clearest of all. Brazil lucky not to be losing yet.
Tactical chess in the other game. Yet to see a non-blocked shot on goal on either side after 25 minutes. Mali probably with the slightly better chance. Both teams playing a highline highpressing game. No space whatsoever. Mali much more comfortable on the ball than Nigeria.
38' Germany's first shot on goal and Julian Brandt makes it count. Speculative shot from outside the area makes it into the net.
First half is over. Brazil had chances, but Portugal had more, and not just clearer chances but one or two misses that will haunt them if they don't win. Let's see what our coach can do with a half-time pep talk. If he believes what he said after the Uruguay game, he believes Portugal deserves to win right now. So he needs to show his players how to turn this around.
They certainly were in the first half, but so far in the second they're winning the battle in midfield and overall. Once or twice Portugal have looked to break but it hasn't come to anything since the break.
Brazil's biggest problem right now was pointed out above by Kaka - no "pivot". All these midfielders facing the goal, 40 yards out, in a line across the field, with no one to hold the ball and help them make runs deeper into the opposing half.
Since Portugal's substitution at 68 minutes it has been all Portugal, getting worse and worse for Brazil. Portugal hit the post just now but we got lucky and it stayed out. Brazil just made a sub to hopefully shore this up for the remaining time and possible OT.
Brazil just not able to hold possession. Every touch of the ball by a brazilian player is taking the ball to a portuguese players.
Andres perraira has been horrible on set pieces and worst part is he has been taking all of them since he came on.
Well... I hope "quem nao faz toma" applies to other teams... cause if it does we get a lucky win. Portugal is just throwing chances away.
