The Brazil womens team played an ok game vs S.Korea last night!! 37 year old veteran Formiga was the hero of the game!!
I caught some of the game (second half) last night. It almost reminded me a bit of the U-20 team. There were a handful of blown opportunities and on the rare occasion South Korea attacked, they had some dangerous balls come through the box. Marta wasn't at her best, but she showed "lampejos" of technical brilliance. She demonstrated good ball control to get past 3 defenders, along with the strength to hold off a defender to thread a ball into the box for a wasted opportunity. Maybe our women's expert @benni... can chime in from time to time.
Thanks for making this thread. Brazil are not really one of the favorites or next-favorites this time around to most of the press. The team though did practice together for months (only Marta and 1 other I think were not released by their clubs) so hopefully that fixes a lot of the afobação and frustration the team has shown in the past when things don't go their way.
We are favored to win Group E, but our 2nd round opponent will come from Group D(US, SWE, AUS, NGA) and with Luciana as our no.1 goalie( why Andrea was left off was baffling!!) I dont see us getting past the 2nd round!!
Brazil 1x0 over Spain at the half. Brazil did a lot of the things that frustrate me about our women's team in the first 20-30 minutes - especially complaining instead of hustling - but have gotten better and scored with 3 mins left in the half. Hopefully that helps them play a cleaner 2nd.
A. Alves was bickering with some of her teammates before she scored!! That's plagued our women's team for years!! But we need another goal to wrap this up cause Luciana in goal have me pulling my hair out!!
Brazil are putting together a much better second half so far. But all the problems when things aren't going their way, in the end, are just symptoms of a system that doesn't value women's soccer and give them the support they need. Instead this team has pressure and expectations based on their good results in the past and their talent (and even the fact they're Brazil is enough for some to say "they should win"). Expectations I think are a little too high for this team and pressure that doesn't help.
Well we're in the 2nd round!! I just hope vs C. Rica we use some bench players..I wanna see Maurine play!! And that has been another problem we had was our previous coaches didn't use the subs when we should've used them!! Mexico is still winless 2-1 loss to England!!
Solid second half by Brazil but a few scares at the end. Should finish first now and will have a tough 2nd round game regardless of who they get. Right now that game would be against Australia, but we could get any of the Group D teams with even an outside shot at the US still possible (though that would require them stumbling against Nigeria).
Hey I was shocked when Nigeria came back to tie Sweden 3-3!! And this US team aint the '99ers'!! But I think they'll put the Lady Eagles away on Tuesday!! The way Sweden is playing I'd rather us face them rather than the US or Australia in the 2nd round!!
We will be playing Australia on Sunday in the 2nd round!! That's gonna be a very fast paced game and Luciana our goalie will be having many visits from Miss De Vanna!!!
Here's my predictions 2nd Round China 2-1 Cameroon USA 2-0 Colombia Germany 3-1 Sweden France 2-0 Korea Brazil 1-3 Australia Japan 2-1 Holland Norway 1-0 England Canada 1-1 Switzerland(Canada wins 4-3 on pks) QF's USA 2-0 China Germany 2-0 France Japan 1-0 Australia Norway 2-1 Canada SF's USA 2-3 Germany Norway 2-1 Japan Final Germany 3-1 Japan Germany 2015 Women's World Cup Champions!!!
No surprise. Sadly while they got some support this time they're still far behind the top teams despite the perception. They had some isolated chances, some good ones at that, but I never saw a convincing game from them, including today. They have improved defensively and that bodes well for future development but they have a ways to go.
Sad, but we need another goalie sorry!! Luciana is not 1st class yet and also I think we need a female coach!! Former players like Sissi or Pretinha would be a good choice!!
When watching this women's team it reminded me of the WC'90 Brazil team!! Had a pretty easy 1st round, but once someone strong came along you knew they would get knocked out!!
The US women's team will put the 3rd star on their jersey as they will get revenge on Japan and beat them 2-0!!
