Anyone have thoughts on what our domestic view of this player was before he went to Hannover? Obviously he’s tearing it up now, but was he considered elite prospect at his age, similar to Weah, Sargent were in their group?
RSL fans were always excited about him, but it was hard to say exactly how he was rated because RSL was surprisingly very cautious with him - he somehow never played a game with the USL team despite scoring almost 2 goals a game with the U19s. I watched him play a few times, and it was hard to really rate him because he was so obviously superior to the teams he was playing against. I really don't know why RSL didn't push him more.
Soto is part of Sargent and Weah's age group; he was in the final 24 called to last years U17 pre-World Cup friendlies but didn't make the WC roster. Compared to others in his age group he only recently has been getting consideration as one of the better players. His golden boot performance in the Slovakia Cup opened a lot of eyes. He's still behind Sargent, but is probably the best #9 after him. Going back to last year I'd take him over Akinola for sure.
Scored the first of six in a 6 - 1 thrashing of Wolfsburg U19. https://resultados.eldesmarque.com/partido/2018/2411321-hannover-u19-wolfsburg-u19
First set of these highlights: https://tv.dfb.de/video/9-spieltag-staffel-nord-nordost-alle-spiele-alle-tore/23509/ Nicked the ball off the keeper for the first, assisted the second and 3rd, set up the 4th with his hold up play, uninvolved for the 5th and 6th. The 6th was a penalty but the call was not included in the highlights.
I'll be curious to see what the plan is for him the next couple of months. Status quo, move to the 23s or a loan to like a B2 team? It would be interesting to know what things they want him to work on to get him ready for the next level.
Started went 89 minutes and SCORED!!!!!!! Hannover U19 2nd and winning goal as they travel to Hamburg U19 and win 1 - 2 in A-Junioren Bundesliga Nord/Nordost
1059485711454351372 is not a valid tweet id Gif of the goal on a fan page that calls him a “candidate for the first team” Great goal. edit: here's a better quality video Sebastian Soto's game-winner Saturday for the Hannover U19s over Hamburg (his team-leading 9th league goal of the season) was an ambitious strike from distance. Was curious to see what his competition is to keep him from moving up to Hannover II, and found this guy Benjamin Hadzic. 19 year old striker who's scored 7 goals in just 902 minutes. For comparison, Josh Sargent has 7 goals in 972 minutes in the exact same league.
I'm interested as to why we're not seeing much hype around Soto. Granted, I haven't watched him play a lot of games, but his goal scoring record at the youth club levels are the best I've ever seen from a YA in a division like the u19s in Germany. What gives? He's being overshadowed by Sargent, but going off of his record and highlights alone, this kid is pretty damn good and deserving of more hype. I follow MLS pretty regularly and I rarely hear or see anything about RSL missing out on him like I did when guys like McKennie came over. He has 9 goals from open play (no penalties) which leads all of Bundesliga Nordost. All of those guys below/around Soto are German youth internationals. This is quite possibly the best national u19 league in the world and Soto is eating it alive.
