It's only one parent, I believe. Dad is from Chile and mom is from Mexico (if memory serves).

I think his mom is Mexican-American. His grandma is from Mexico for sure and she said that he should play for the country of his birth.

No Soto appearance today in Hannover 1-1 tie v. Forth. Weydant gets a last minute goal to save the point.

    Meanwhile...

So is he benched because he won't play ball in contract negotiations?

According to the article, the head coach of Chile contacted Soto directly, something that Berhalter has not done. This may motivate him to play for Chile. Elsewhere it also says he has flags of both USA and Chile in his apartment in Germany.

"Pero, por otro lado, ¿qué lo motiva a aceptar la invitación de Rueda? Mayores expectativas deportivas y, lo principal, que fue el entrenador del combinado absoluto de Chile quien lo llamó directamente, algo que el técnico de la selección mayor de Estados Unidos no ha hecho. "¿Vale la pena esperar?" "¿Y si nunca lo llaman?" Son las dos preguntas que se ha hecho el jugador en su cabeza."

The talk of him playing for Chile is the equivalent of Pulisic and Croatia. Ridiculous.

Don't see any Chiliean flags on his Twitter page though.

Is the club that upset that Soto wants to play out the final year of his contract?

It seems like a catch-22. Why would Hannover play him when he won't sign a new deal and then can develop other options? But why would Soto sign longer term with them if they don't seem inclined to play him?

Seems like he should just get out of there if there's a decent offer.

have to admit if Soto leaves it really is his own fault. Club wants to sign him for 3 year contract and he only wants 2 season.Let's be honest that sounds like Soto wants to jump ship after only 1 season at the club. 2 years means until 2021 and it means the club might be forced to sell him in 2020 otherwise with a year to go he'd leave for free. Makes it look like Short Term VS Long Term.

and Slomka said that he has no interest of dev players who don't sign.

Netherlands? Austria? Wonder where he would go? Likely smaller league if he wants any real playing time.

Because they think he can help them win and gain promotion? Like their number one job?
