He was absolutely fantastic last night. It will be overshadowed by Stevie G's brilliant debut and Robbie K's hat trick but make no bones about it the kid has hit the ground running with the LAG. I'm shocked really. huge, huge praise goes to Arena, Jovan Kirovski, and Chris Klein for seeing his talent and getting him signed. Lletgett has quietly been one of the better young acquisitions in MLS this season. He keeps going and Jurgen, in his backyard, will take notice.
It's a small sample size, but he plays like Juergen wishes Nguyen and Feilhaber would. Decisive, skilled and creative in the attacking third while still being committed defensively. I want to see him in the Dempsey role ASAP. Such poor asset management by West Ham
I don't know that so much credit goes to Arena, Kirovski and Klein - I'm sure there were many MLS teams who would have been happy to sign Lletget...just funny that the MLS slots always end up "LAG"
I think this is hindsight. Where his career was not even 6 months ago couldn't warrant having a line for his services. Give the Galaxy credit, they went out and did their due diligence and they are being rewarded. Otherwise the team who LA ended up giving the allocation money to wouldn't have been the 17th or 18th team on the list.
It's their nature. Poke around a bit and look who's either been in their academy and/or passed through their 1st team doors. Shocking how many quality players started their careers at West Ham. Their history, while decent enough, could be drastically different had they held onto many of their assets.
Exactamundo. I'm not saying that he'd for sure be a contributor on their team, but at minimum the guy could've gone on loan to a lower division and at least garnered some sort of transfer fee. Incredibly dumb to just let a talented guy like him toil on the reserve squad
...and since he is a real American, playing in MLS in America, how about shutting down this thread? Those who wish to follow him should be able to do so on the LA forum. Mods? @bungadiri @Friedel'sAccen @dark knight Bueller? Bueller?
YA Academy is still a place for Alumni, and Lletget is one of the favorites on this section. I vote he stays.
I think this thread is still relevant here to the extent it's an outlet for kvetching about his treatment at West Ham, particularly in light of his start in LA. It's also instructive from a YA perspective to look at his choice to sign with WHU & see how it turned out for him -- Did it make him better? Worse? etc. Lletget's YA phase will be a cautionary tale for a while. Though, the way he's playing, there's a strong case WHU trained him pretty damn well -- as much as I hate to say it.
Yes. Time to close this one down and, in the process, to congratulate Mr. Lletget and wish him well on this next step.
