Sebastian Burke (Chelsea FC; Raleigh-Durham, N.C.)

His named popped up on this U14 camp roster and we've been assured this is the "real" Chelsea FC and not some similarly named copycat. But there is almost no info about him anywhere on the internets, so this will just be a placeholder since he was called into a US camp.

This is probably him based on the CASL connection and the poster's name:

Mother works for Glaxo, so the family, conveniently, moved there for her work.

Sebastian Burke (Chelsea FC; Raleigh, North Carolina) rounds out the top five for this class. Burke is one of the best midfielders in this class. His soccer intelligence is way beyond his years and he looks to be versatile as a prospect with potential to fill in as an outside back. Burke is the top player in this class currently playing outside of the United States.

Based on US Soccer's latest U14 training camp release, it looks like Sebastian has moved to Bayern Munich.

I assume Caden Clark is at a USSDA Barca Academy and not actually in Spain?

FWIW, Burke does not appear on Bayern's website pages for the U16 or U15 squads.

U16s are 02s and 03s, so I assume U15s are the rest of the 03s and U14s are 04s. If so, Burke would be too old.

And in any case he's not on it.

Looks a bit scrawny... Anyway, how does one get their kid on the radar? My son is now 11 and plays at Slavia Prague.

Ha. I mean, there are threads about younger guys than 11 (heck, I have started a few) though they tend to get a bit silly.

Hey Dave, point definitely well taken. On a serious note, when would you say the 'proper' age is to get one started, not that I'm that serious about that? My son's played against top teams in Germany, including Bayern Munich, England, Chelsea... etc. He's been scouted and has an informal agreement with the Czech agency representing Petr Cech. He's played in Croatia as well, and a scout there wanted him to come down to the factory that is Dinamo Zagreb, although that goes against all FIFA regulations. Very early days to say how this will all pan out, but the kid's got a shot...

Having said that, if Burke's at Bayern at that age, that is quite an accomplishment and speaks volumes about his ability....

What do you mean by "get started" exactly? If you mean starting a thread, my general rule of thumb is that I wait for them to reach an age when U.S. Soccer starts convening YNT pools -- so, right now that that's the 2003 birth year. (If you'd told me that there would ever be players born in 2003 when I started doing this, I would've laughed at you.)

With that said, you're an adult and I can't tell you how to tell your family's story. There are, of course, families that post YouTube videos and other content well before their kids' teenage years. Presumably, in their calculus, it helps them in some way -- though I tend to think that many of them would love to be in the situation you already are, so maybe you're OK for a while.

Good luck to you and your family. At the risk of stating the obvious, whatever happens to his "career," I hope he (and you) find a way to love the game -- in whatever form -- for the rest of his life.

wise words. No, I'm not convinced pr work helps. It just struck me that my son's "career"-- for lack of a better word -- is somewhat interesting and promising. Yes, you're right, love of the game is paramount, and if he maintains that, who knows, maybe someday you'll here from him....

Cool. I'll keep you informed. 15 would be the age when he would be offered a pro contract with the team.... that is, of course, if he's still there.....Where can I write about the everyday ins and outs in the youth system of a pretty descent European team. The stories I could tell......

That would probably be of interest to many folks here. Perhaps you could start a thread and post items of general interest, leaving out identifying information. (Though, speaking frankly, based on a quick web search it's not hard to make an educated, if not necessarily correct, guess about who your son is using information already in this thread. Your call -- happy to discuss via private message if you like, since we've derailed Sebastian's thread...)

That would be very interesting to most of us here. As I don't know the ins and outs of how professional teams "groom" for lack of a better word their kids I'd love to hear any personal anecdotes. Not to mention a personal connection, even if it's only via the web, makes any story more interesting.

Since your kid's is abroad, make a post in the academy section. Technically that's where it'd go anyway. For sure I'd doubt anyone would object to you creating a new thread regarding your son, his experiences and the general process itself that your family has seen and experienced.
